She didn't really want to go home. If she went home Ar'lis could find
her there, and she just didn't feel like dealing with that today.
Instead she sat in the sand, looking out towards the ocean, trying to
think of a good reason to be gone longer than a couple candlemarks.
L'cian really intended to continue his run for another half candlemark,
but he caught sight of Gaiya and couldn't shake the idea that something
was wrong with her, sitting all by herself like that.
"Gaiya?" He panted between breaths.
She looked up at him, startled for a moment. L'cian? And he was
actually _talking_ to her? "Hello. Out for a run?" she asked
cautiously. They hadn't spoken in so long. It was good to see him.
She'd missed her friend.
"No. I just like to wander around all shirtless and glistening." He half
crashed into the sand next to her, very much enjoying being friendly
with her again.
"Well, I certainly won't complain," she said with the start of a relaxed
smile. It was almost like things had been before. Before Ar'lis.
Before she had given up L'cian for the promise of something better than
just a fling. Shards, what an idiot she'd been then!
L'cian laughed. "Oh yea? What if I did this?" He wrapped his arms around
her before she knew what was going on and wiped his sweaty forehead all
over her shoulder. "Still not complaining?"
Giaya squealed as he left sweaty tracks along the light fabric of her
dress. "Yes! I am formally complaining about that one, you beast!"
She laughed despite herself.
"I'll show you complaining!" L'cian was about to be more devious but
Giaya managed to squirm out of his arms and he was forced to chase her
down the beach. "It's no use running!" He yelled. "I'm in shape!"
"Oh, thanks L'cian," She squealed and changed directions before he could
grab her. "You certainly know how to flatter a girl!"
"What did I tell you about running?" He yelled. "There'll be no mercy
now!" He put on a burst of speed and practically on her heels in a
moment. "What to give in and save us all the trouble?"
"But you know I like trouble!" She knew he could catch her any time he
wanted. He was toying with her, and she liked it. Gaiya had missed
just having fun with a man.
"Fine! Trouble then!" With a quick lunge L'cian had his arms around her
sides and playfully pulled her down to the sand with a laugh. His fall
was carefully planned so that they both landed softly.
Gaiya fought to catch her breath. She dipped her shoulder a bit so that
it would fit perfectly up against him. "Yup, you are a beast, L'cian.
A horrible, trouble making beast."
"Oh, I might be offended!" L'cian gasped, propping himself up on an
elbow to lean over her. "Don't encourage me to get worse!"
"You know I wouldn't mind that, L'cian," she said softly, her face and
tone suddenly very serious.
L'cian's smile faded from his face but not from his eyes. He leaned in
until his face was just inches from Gaiya's. The smile fleeted onto his
lips for just a moment before her grew serious again and he slowly
closed the space between them and softly pressed his lips to hers.
Gaiya's eyes fluttered closed as her fingers slipped into his hair.
Shards, but this was what kissing was supposed to feel like. She had
almost forgotten that kissing could be more than an apology, or
forgiveness, or to cover up the fact that two people had really nothing
to say to each other. Kissing could just be fun, and comforting, and
feel just so good.
After a long moment he pulled away slightly, but stayed quite close.
"Sorry." It was a whisper but they were still more than close enough to
hear it perfectly.
"I'm not," she whispered back, her fingernails lightly caressing the
back of his neck, practically begging him to do it again. And more.
