Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 13, day 24 of Turn 3
D'cal was beginning to wake up slowly, almost reluctantly. The worst of the flight lust had left him. Now he just felt the warmth of waking up next to someone. His leg was intertwined with another, his hand around a waist, his cheek resting on a muscular shoulder blade. He was growing accustomed to waking up next to B'vin like this. "I didn't pull you away from anything important, did I?" he asked quietly. The bluerider could tell by his breathing that B'vin was not asleep.
"Nothing that couldn't wait." B'vin said with a shy smile as he turned to look at the bluerider. He'd been half way down to the tannery to pick up a new strap when Serenth had relayed Aosorath's message that D'cal needed him. The bluerider adjusted so he could see his friend's face a bit easier. "Well, I appreciate your making yourself available to me."
B'vin gave a small chuckle. "You make it sound like it's a chore for me or something. D'cal, I'm glad you come to me, I _like_ it. You're the only person I can be like this with." he added softly. It wasn't easy for him to talk like that, but he'd grown accustomed to being open and _himself_ with his friend. "Yeah," D'cal nodded thoughtfully. "Why do you think it is that you and I can do this when I lose a flight, but not... other times?"
The question caught him off guard, but he was still relaxed enough to just give a small one-shouldered shrug. "I don't know." he hesitated slightly before adding, "Do...do you _want_ to do it other times?" The question out, B'vin didn't know if he actually wanted an answer. "Well, I have Dyaera..." Who was he kidding. She had whoever she wanted, and he knew he was free to do the same. "I don't know... I've never tried..." he admitted quietly. D'cal still wasn't so sure he _wanted_ to try...
B'vin didn't like Dyaera and D'cal knew it. It was probably why he never talked to him about her. He'd known all along they had a relationship... it was the whole reason they'd become friends. Back when he and Dyaera had been injured in the month 7 fall, D'cal had talked and played cards with him while Dyaera was asleep to pass the time. Slowly during those sevendays, D'cal had worn down B'vin's tough exterior and the two had become closer than he ever thought he could be with _anyone_. "I don't...want to." B'vin finally said a bit stiltedly as he furrowed his brow and tried to explain, "Not with anyone else...You're my friend....I can trust you." D'cal's expression turned to one of tender worry for his friend. "You can trust other people too, B'vin. If you just try." He didn't like the thought of B'vin always being alone.
**Easy for you to say** "I don't want to try." He turned away slightly, not wanting to look at D'cal's face, but also not wanting to untwine from the bluerider's comforting touch. D'cal just didn't understand how hard it was for him to let somebody in; to trust that they won't hurt him. All he'd ever known- be it from his family who thew him at the weyr unable to accept his differences, to the riders he'd bedded during flight lust who'd told him they were disgusted by him- was loathing, hatred, and disapproval. Trusting people just wasn't something B'vin was willing to risk. "Come on, B'vin," D'cal said gently, resting his forehead against the greenrider's temple. "Trusting people doesn't always turn out bad. You trusted me. I'm not the only one who wants you."
B'vin closed his eyes, enjoying the warmth D'cal exuded. It made him feel like there was nothing wrong in the world, that he was accepted and loved--normal. Then he thought of another time "normal" was used; Serenth's last mating flight. He'd woken up and the bronze rider was getting dressed.
B'vin hadn't asked for anything, just laid there and watched him, as the sex had been rough and he was too sore to move much. The rider had seen him watching and his mouth curled in repulsion. "A flight's a flight... but I'm _normal_." he had said, just before walking out. The memory of that dismissal... that unspoken accusation that there was something _wrong_ with him, made his chest tighten and tears form in his eyes. He opened his eyes again, willing the salty water to not fall onto his face. "D'cal?" he asked, his voice shaky but quiet, "If Serenth ever rises again... you'll be there won't you... you and Aosorath?"
The bluerider knew he couldn't speak for his lifemate. Sending a silent question, the little blue sent him back a resounding answer. }:Of course I would chase Serenth! She's beautiful! And she's always very nice to me. I think she likes me,:{ the little blue replied smugly.
"We'll be there, B'vin," D'cal promised. "But... You know full well he hasn't actually _caught_ a green yet..." After all, that's how D'cal had come to be in the greenriders arms again.
That small fact didn't matter to B'vin, he didn't think Serenth would ever rise again anyway, but just that D'cal would be there if she ever did, comforted him. "But he _would_, Serenth would pick him. You've seen how she prefers him when we go swimming on the beach." he said, to reassure his friend. "Speaking of..." B'vin said suddenly, trying to change the topic to something a bit lighter, and a lot _safer_, "Feel like going down for a swim? We've got to wash up anyways, and Serenth's been wanting to play with the dolphins." The bluerider could tell the discussion was over for now. That was fine with him. "Sure, we can go down. I can't stay too long, but a swim would be nice."
