Sculpting isn't my craft

Writers: Anna, Cali
Date Posted: 4th November 2006

Characters: J'klin, Kitalina
Description: J'klin visits Kitalina again and she suggests a different type of therapy.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 13, day 8 of Turn 3

"Thanks for fitting me in your schedule, Kitalina. I didn't mean to blow off our appointment yesterday, but you know how green flights can be. I just sort of lost track of time afterwards." J'klin apologized as he flopped down on his favorite couch, ready for another mindhealing session.

Kit smiled to herself and nodded, "I understand J'klin, it is a Weyr after all." She organized her hides on her desk and walked over to her chair by the couch. "So how has your day been J'klin?" she asked in her usual way.

"Pretty good," he said nonchalantly as he watched her take a seat, "A normal type day I guess. I did some sweepriding this morning, still trying to learn all the River Bluff territory since I transferred."

She shivered slightly as she felt his eyes on her and covered it up by rubbing her arms as if she was cold. Even though that was even a ridiculous idea since river bluff wasn't necessarily a cold place at all. It was just usually she that did the watching, not the other way around. "That sounds like a relaxing way to spend your morning, except for the whole paying attention part." she smiled at her lame little joke but continued on. "So how did the sculpting come along? Did you get to do any pieces?"

"I've decided sculpting isn't really one of my better skills." he said drolly, pulling a figure from the satchel he'd brought with him and presenting it to her. "It's Nimyth."

Kit smiled at the little sculpture in the shape of a dragon, "So why did you sculpt your dragon?"

**Because I couldn't think of anything else?** he wanted to say.
"Because he's the most important thing in the world to me." He said instead.
It was the truth, no doubt about that, but in all honesty he felt the whole exercise was somewhat stupid.

Kitalina prided herself in her ability to understand her patients' voices, and how they feel when they speak. She could tell he hadn't really benefited from the exercise so she shrugged it off, "Well, that's a good reason. But I can see that the activity hadn't helped in the way I wanted it to. No matter though, we'll just have to figure out something else to do." She let her usually composed eyes raise just a bit while she spoke, an unusual hint of mischievousness showing in them.

So she saw right through him... he wasn't surprised, she always did.
That was one of the reasons he liked to come and see her; he couldn't hide anything from her. "Oh? Well then, what does the fair lady suggest?"

Kitalina looked at him for a few moments. She considered the various things that were affecting J'klin's mind, the things that were troubling him, and the things that helped him. "Honestly, J'klin I think that we need try something a little drastic here."

J'klin raised his eyebrows. Drastic? Right after his fight with U'kaiah, the Dragon Falls Weyr mindhealer had threatened a stay at a mindhealer's Hall if he couldn't get his act together, but he thought he had been doing better, much better...

She saw his confusion so she decided to explain better, "It's just that, I know you have been doing rather well lately but I'm not sure that it will last. I mean if you came to a mindhealer for the rest of your life I'm sure you'd be fine, but I don't think you want that." she cringed inwardly at the thought of never again hearing about J'klin's life, never again talking to him in such a private way as she did then. "I think you need something to _really_ make you realize that you can continue on with your life in the same way you are now, with out me."

"What do you suggest?" He didn't know if he really liked the idea going it alone. He had come to see Kitalina as his voice of reason, she kept him grounded.

She shrugged, noticing his discomfort, "You could try writing a journal.
Often times when you talk to me about your issues or problems, you end up finding the solution on your own. It's just that you have had me here to talk to. I think that you could work through things on your own if you let your thoughts spill onto hide. What do you think?"

He shrugged, non-committal. "I can try it I guess. But I'll still come back here and talk to you about my journal... right?" He _liked_ coming here, he felt calmer and more sure of himself after talking with Kitalina.

The mindhealer smiled slightly, "Yes, of course. But hopefully we can work it out so that you come to me less and less, until you don't need to come to me any more." It would be so strange not having a patient to look forward to like she did J'klin.

As long as he could still come and see her, he'd try anything.
