"Sir," the brownrider knocked on the Weyrleader's door. "Might I have a moment of your time?"

J'darin looked up from the pile of hides he was working through at K'deren's knock. Hasaarth had already confirmed who it was, even before the Wingsecond knocked. He was not surprised; they needed to replace M'kel.

"Come in, K'deren!" The Weyrleader called, setting aside his stack for a more pressing need - a Wingleader.

"I wanted to talk to you about the wings, if you have a moment or two,"
stated the brownrider after he had closed the door behind him.

"I always have time for the Wings, K'deren. Please sit. I know we need to find a new Wingleader for you, and soon. You must be nearly out of your mind, aye?"

"You could say that," said the brownrider as he sank into the offered seat.
"But I might have a possible solution to some of it." That is, if the Weyrleader himself approved of his idea, and the greenrider agreed to it.

J'darin raised both his eyebrows. He was _not_ going to promote K'deren, No matter the man's qualifications. He was a fantastic brownrider and had done very well since M'kel had transferred, but he wanted - needed - more bronzeriders.

What he said, not knowing what K'deren truly meant, was this, instead. "I trust your opinion about the Wing, K'deren. If you've a suggestion, by all means, lets hear it. I am trying to find a suitable bronzerider willing to transfer here, as we have few with the right experience or.. history... left at Dolphin Cove." He paused, considering who was left. The list was far too short.

"What are you thinking?" He nodded invitingly.

"A Wingthird, it would certainly help me with the administration work until we find a Wingleader."

"A Wingthird..." J'darin thought this over for a moment then nodded.
"Easier to find a Wingthird than a Wingleader, isn't it? Though we certainly still need to look for someone." He paused, a half smile hovering around his lips. "You have someone in mind, I trust?"

"I do indeed," stated K'deren. "A responsible greenrider, who has more than a good grasp of drills. She's got the respect of the wing already, so it wouldn't need much more to officially ask her to take the rank, so long as you approve."

J'darin frowned briefly. A female greenrider was slightly easier for him than a male, although responsible and greenrider seemed to rarely go together.
However, he would admit it was certainly possible, even plausible.

"She sounds like what you need. Who is this skilled young rider?"

"Eleada, green Gliorith's rider."

J'darin was silent a moment. She was a new addition, though it was coming Home for the rider herself. But, she had also seen Thread up close and lived to Tell about it. The two cancelled each other out in J'darin's mind.

He considered K'deren, and knew the man to be a true judge of skill.

"Very well, K'deren, go ahead and ask her. If she agrees, the two of you can handle the promotion between you, though I will visit with her myself as soon as she takes over the duties."

"Thank you Sir, I'll speak to her later today. I will, of course, keep you informed of what happens."

"Thank you, K'deren. I know you could use the help. Hopefully she works out as well as you believe she will, and we can then turn our attentions to finding a Wingleader." J'darin smiled, almost friendly.

K'deren knew full well he could be the wingleader, but sometimes traditions won out. "I'm sure we will find someone soon," he settled for saying.

But J'darin had already unbent and allowed a bluerider for a Weyrlingmaster second. He could not go to permanently appointing a brownrider as a Wingleader. He needed more bronzeriders, anyway.

He looked at K'deren for a moment, nodding in understanding of the unspoken words.

"Thank you, K'deren, for your input and suggestion. I think she will do fine."

"I'm sure she will sir."
