Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 3, day 2 of Turn 4
She came up behind the brownrider, a grin on her face as she recognised him.
"K'sper!" she called out. "Wait a moment!"
He turned with a shy smile, feeling the heat at the tips of his ears that indicated they were turning red. "Hello, Demalia. How have you been?"
}:Tapheth's rider.:{ Bentith's rumbled thoughts reflected the fondness that the brown felt for the green, a reminder that only deepened the young man's blush.
"Good, you?" she replied as she came alongside him.
"Fine." He struggled for something else to say, but when he opened his mouth, could only repeat his comment. "Fine."
"I was heading to the stores, need to get a bit of leather to fix my riding straps. You going that way?"
"Uh. Yes. Yes, I was."
}:You were _not_:{ The brown dragon's voice sounded amused as he transmitted his thoughts to his rider.
**Quiet!** cautioned K'sper. **You always tell me to be more sociable, so I'm trying.**
"Really. That's good." Demalia carried on. "My fighting straps are good, but I need to replace a piece on the set I use when I'm doing transport or message duty. It's starting to look a little worn, and I'd hate anything to happen."
"It's not that I really need to replace my straps right this moment,"
admitted the brownrider. "But I tend to wait until the last minute and then must panic. I'm trying to be more responsible and to plan ahead."
"Planning is good," she said. "But sometimes spontaneity works too."
"I'm not very good at spontaneous. I tend to over-think much of my life."
K'sper continued walking beside her thoughtfully. "Which is a real contrast to riding Threadfall, isn't it? There's really little time to plan during Fall."
"No, it's more a case of reacting to what's happening."
"In that case, I suppose that I am learning to be a little more spontaneous."
}:Like now.:{ Bentith's voice reflected his amusement with his rider.
**Can you just stay out of this?**
"Really?" she teased.
"Only when fighting Thread," he admitted. "Other than that, I'm usually not the spontaneous type. How about you?"
"I keep being told I need to do more stuff off the cuff."
"It sounds as if you're in the same weyr as me on this one." K'sper gave an exasperated sigh. "I find it really difficult: all of my life I was brought up to be responsible and now people tell me to let go and have fun, to do things that just appeal at that moment. It just seems to go against the grain."
"Yeah, I know what you mean. With Ma and Da here, and then being a member of the Weyrlingstaff. I had to set an example."
"That would make it much more difficult. It's bad enough for me to go back to visit my mum and my sister and have them question me continually about all that I do, let alone knowing that they're watching me. And that's even with not doing anything out of the ordinary. I imagine it's much worse with your parents right here."
"I think Ma's finally realised that I have someone else watching over me now." Demalia grinned, "Like Tapheth would let me get away with anything too outrageous."
K'sper nodded as she spoke. "He might not allow me to do anything outrageous, but Bentith is the one who most encourages me to try new things."
"And so he should," she said as they arrived at the stores. "Sometimes they can be fun."
"Like what?"
"Like flying off to see the sun on a cold day when it just so happens to snow here," she suggested.
"I hadn't thought of that." He shook his head and frowned. "Sometimes I feel as if I have too little imagination. I suppose that comes of a childhood of being told to stop daydreaming."
"Well maybe we should try it sometime." The words were out of her mouth almost before she realised that she had said them.
}:Spontanaeity,:{ reminded Tapheth, }:See.:{ His expression brightened. "Maybe we should."
"That would be good, I'd like it."
"Ok, then, it's a d. . ." He stopped short of saying 'date,' thinking that to be pushing his sense of spontaneity. "We'll do that."
"I'll look forwards to it," she smiled at him. "Really, I will."
"So will I," he smiled back at her, and though he did so without thought, he realized immediately that he meant it.
"Well let Tapheth know when you want to go, and I'll ask my Ma for a picnic."
