Not into the water. Ylisahn couldn't believe her eyes, and wiped her
face free of rain yet again as she watched the fluttering white shirt
swing but not fall. And the darker body? Harder to see on the cliff
face. Was it still there?

It was a weyr the person had climbed down from. A dragonrider most
likely. And no keening dragons. He must still be there. Safe for the
moment.

}:Can you see _your_ straps?:{ Valieth's concern was apparent in each
word. }:They must be close now?:{ Th'gar wiped his face against his
shoulder, trying to clear his eyes long enough to search above him. **I
can see them!** he almost shouted with relief. **They're above but to
my left, tell B'har to roll them further this way, and another half
dragonlength down.**

~ ~ ~

}:To the left and half a dragonlength down:{ Iaaeth intoned loudly, the
dragons concern overshadowing all else. }:Valieth's rider can see the
straps, he said more to the left:{

**His or mine?**

}:His! His!:{ Iaaeth's answer came almost immediately. He could see
his rider from his own ledge, nothing would have kept him safe and dry
when he knew his rider faced death out on Valieth's ledge. He was
crouched on the edge, ready to swoop at a moment's notice if his rider
slipped. His eyes could just make out the huddled form below, and he
held his breath, as did his rider, as the straps were finally caught by
the rider below.

B'har dragged on the straps, passing the taut rope through to the man
behind him. He could feel the weight of an exhausted Th'gar on the
other end. **Hold on, my friend, hold on!** his thoughts repeated over
and over as though the more he said it the more strength Th'gar would gain.

}: Is the stranded one safe, Valieth's rider is asking?:{

B'har glanced across as one of the Healers bravely crawled forward to
the lip of the ledge, the man deserved to be recognised for his effort.
He reached over the lip, pulling at something. Another man edged
forward holding tightly to the healer's legs, as the healer pulled the
unconscious stranger over the lip of the ledge and onto flat rock.

**He's safe - let Th'gar know, and tell him we'll have him up here as
fast as we can!**

}:They're bringing you in, and _he_ is safe:{ Valieth's concern was
evident, he could sense his riders fatigue and desperately wanted to be
out helping him.

**NO! You stay where you are, they will have me back with you soon!**
With a last surge of energy, spurred on by his dragons concern, Th'gar
tugged himself up the rising straps.

"Pull him in! Grab his hand!" B'har's voice boomed over the wind as he
saw Th'gar's hand appear of the ledge.

There was nobody on the wall of the Weyrbowl now - not somebody in
white, not somebody in darker colours. Ylisahn sighed and turned away
from the wind blown rain. As she walked away from the cavern opening
she noticed that there was water underfoot. Almost ankle-deep water.
She turned and looked along the tops of the sandbags. Little waves were
breaking over the top every time the wind pitch rose. That wasn't good.
What if it got deeper?

The Headwoman hurried away to report to the Weyrwoman. She would know
that this flood could well be worse than usual - just as the dolphins said.

Greah leaned over and grasped the bluerider's forearm, helping to haul
him onto the ledge and to safety. "In out of the rain?" she said to the
man beside her, and they half lifted the rider and walked backward into
the weyr. Not entirely out of the rain, they were out of the worst of
the rain.

B'har dropped the straps as soon as they had Th'gar safely inside. He
rushed to aid them taking him back into his weyr, asking Iaaeth that he
let Valieth know his rider was safe at last.

Th'gar felt the comforting hands drag him to safety, and heaved a sigh
of relief. **I am here, I am safe.** he bespoke Valieth, **I am wet, I
am tired, but I am here and I am safe.** He could feel himself being
lifted by many willing hands, but couldn't be bothered opening his eyes
to see who he should thank, right now. Immense weariness overcame him,
now that he could afford to relax, a small insight into what the
stranded stranger must have felt when he finally managed to place the
safely straps about his body. Was that why he finally fell, Th'gar mused.

Greah looked at the two men and then around at the group of wet and
bedraggled looking people, supposing she looked just as bad. Should she
stay and find out how the first man and the dragonrider were? Other
than to be able to tell the Headwoman the outcome she didn't really
_need_ to know and there was probably plenty more work for her down stairs.

The storm surge water had filled the _whole_ Weyrbowl. That wasn't
normal, no matter how awful the storms had been in the past, and she
wasn't surprised that people were still scurrying around moving things
to the upper levels. It was what she should be doing instead of
standing around dripping on the rocky floor of the weyr.

Without a backward look the young woman headed out of the crowd, back
through the rider quarters and about her work.
