Description: K'sper encounters goldrider Teseada and finds himself rather
tongue-tied.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 4, day 5 of Turn 4
"Brownrider," she said acknowledging him as she walked past him in the
corridor, parts from a flamethrower in her hands.
K'sper turned to her, eyes wide. "Y-yes?"
She struggled with the load a little as she turned around. She'd not really
expected him to really answer, speaking was more a courtesy as she passed
him.
Thinking that she was dropping the parts she held, he lunged for them,
knocking against first the wall and then the goldrider.
"Oof," the air was knocked out of her for a moment. "Be careful," she
snapped, a hint of the old Teseada resurfacing.
He backed away, stopped by the rock wall of the corridor. "Yes, Weyrwoman.
Sorry. I mean. . . yes, sorry."
"Relax," she said suddenly contrite as she saw his face. "I was just
rearranging them."
Still plastered against the wall, he regarded her skeptically. "You're
sure?"
"Positive. I'm used to it, even before I Impressed."
"Would you like some help?"
"If it's no trouble."
"No, of course not. I mean - no trouble at all, Weyrwoman."
Weyrwoman, it sounded strange to her ears, but maybe one day... "I'm not,
well not the Weyrwoman yet." she said. "For now I'm a rider like anyone
else. Please, call me Teseada."
K'sper inwardly groaned. He knew the difference but to him each goldrider
was special, above the others, partnered with a dragon who held so many
possibilities for new dragons, new Impressions. "Yes, Wey. . . Teseada."
"See, it's easy really," she smiled
He returned her smile, though his required all of his effort. "Uh, yeah -
easy."
"It is, and I'll make it easier still. What's your name?"
"My name?" The brownrider felt a moment of panic, wondering why she would
want to know his name, but replied automatically. "K'sper, rider of
Bentith."
"Well met K'sper." She offered him a length of hose. "If you can just take
that for me, and help me down to the technicians with it?"
"Yes, of course, Wey. . . Teseada." He took the hose, blushing profusely at
yet another lapse.
She ignored the blush. "It's this way," she said as she moved off in the
direction she'd been going. "Not far at all."
He chose to nod silently, noting to himself that with all of his mistakes of
this conversation, 'not far at all' would probably still feel like one of
the longest treks of his life.
And it really wasn't far, merely a handful of dragonlengths. "Thank you
K'sper," she said as they reached their destination.
"You're welcome, T - Teseada." He found that it truly was getting easier.
"Where do you want me to put this?"
"The Master Technician there will take it," she said as a man with those
knots came to meet them.
He gave up the hose to the technician before addressing her again. "Well. .
. Teseada, it's been nice talking to you, but I guess I should get back. . .
back to where I was."
"Thank you again for your help."
"You're welcome . . . again."
She smiled at the brownrider, hoping he'd feel a bit more at ease. "I'll see
you again soon I hope."
He nodded, forcing a smile as he started to back down the corridor away from
the goldrider. "Right. Soon." He moved further away, once again able to
breathe without that tightness in his chest. **Shards! I hope not too soon.
This is far too uncomfortable.**
