Kiala walked in the dining area and hid a yawn behind
her hand. She'd had a long, tiring day and wanted to
eat with anyone who she could have a good, relaxing
conversation with. She looked around at the somewhat
empty tables to see who was grabbing a late dinner.
She noticed N'call sitting over on one the benchs and,
after grabbing her dinner, walked over. "Hello
N'call, do you mind if I join you?"
N'call looked up at the Candidate and smiled. The few
classes he'd helped teach the Candidates she'd been
the one that stood out to him the most. "Sure Kiala,
have a seat." He motioned to an empty spot across him
with his spoon.
"Thanks," she replied as she set everything down.
"How is Haloth doing? Is he still getting in the
middle of things?"
"Every minute." He said with a grin. "I trust you
are doing well?" He asked politely. "Not getting
into anything, unseen?" His grin told of his bluff.
"Who me?" Kiala replied and blinked innocently. "I
have no idea what you're talking about." She couldn't
keep a straight face and started
laughing. "Alright, you caught me, but it's nothing
new for me." Kiala took a few bites of her dinner.
"Besides, what fun would life be without
a little bit of mischief here and there?"
"Of course." N'call replied. "Life would be nothing
but a bore without a little intrigue." He winked.
"But we'll just keep that between us." His face
became much less seductive as he sat up. "How was
your day?" He asked.
"Fairly well, actually. I worked in the runner area
until lunch, grabbed a quick bite and then helped 2
dragonriders give baths." Kiala smiled. "That was fun.
It never ceases to amaze me how many itchy spots a
dragon can have."
"I think they must make up at least half of them."
N'call said with a laugh. "I think they just like the
attention."
Kiala laughed also. "You know, I wouldn't doubt it!
Like they don't get enough attention from everyone,
though."
"Well I guess when you've got it flaunt it." N'call
said with a shrug. "I don't mind it much. Most of
the time Haloth takes me to some hidden ocean cove for
his baths." N'call grinned. "He likes the warm
water."
"Ah, I like the warm water too. Especially when you
can go for a swim in it instead of bathing in the
sometimes cold Weyr lake!"
"Too true. I like it because its an excuse to relax
on a restday and not do anything but play with
dolphins and watch the clouds on your dragons back."
N'call grinned at the thought. "Now I want Haloth to
want a bath." He said wishfully.
}:I'm sure I could have that arranged.:{ Haloth butted
in sleepily. }:We did work hard today.:{ N'call
grinned.
"By your grin, it looks like Haloth just agreed with
you!" Kiala said. She took a few more bites and
sipped a few times at her drink. She liked having
company to talk to at dinner because it gave her
someone to pass the time with.
"He did." N'call said around a mouthful of food. "But
he knows we really shouldn't go wandering off to the
coast, especially with this being squall season and
all." N'call swallowed his food and grinned. "Maybe
next restday." N'call said. Suddenly an idea popped
into his head. "Would you like to come? It's not
like I couldn't use the help washing Haloth."
"Sure! I never turn down an offer like that. Besides,
Haloth will be fun to wash I'm thinking," Kiala
replied. "Besides, if it's a restday, I'll just make
sure my daily chores are finished and then I'm free!"
"Then its settled. And make sure you wear something
you don't mind getting wet in." N'call grinned as he
stood. "Haloth is known to make washing a challenge.
So I'll pick you up outside the Dining Cavern this
restday?" He asked.
Kiala laughed. "It's a deal! Bathing a dragon for warm
waters? I think I'm getting the better end of the
deal! I'll be ready and waiting too!" she replied.
