Characters: Br'nick, C'lor
Description: Br'nick and C'lor discuss the young bronzerider's performance during threadfall.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 4, day 15 of Turn 4

C'lor slid from Hayreith's back weary and thankful that they had no injuries this time. He was sure that there had been more than one time that he could have gotten to the clump faster or fed Hayreith the firestone more often. He had never imagined that fighting thread would cause him to worry so much.

}:We did well. I am dirty and want a bath. Then you can bathe and eat.:{ the bronze said not a bit concerned that they hadn't performed up to the Wingleader's standards. He had flamed the clumps of thread that they had seen and were within reach to do so. What else could they have done?

**Let's go get you clean then.** he replied as he began to remove the riding gear that needed a good cleaning of its own. Once he was dressed more comfortable and had gathered the bathing supplies, he headed out to meet the bronze by the water's edge.

}:Cendarnth says that we did well. Do not worry.:{ the bronze informed him as he came in from where he had been soaking while waiting for his rider to return.

**I'm trying not to.**

}:Cendarnth says his rider is coming to help you bathe me. It will go much faster that way.:{ Hayreith said excitedly. He liked having people help his rider bathe him and he definitely liked their wingsecond.

C'lor nodded and started scrubbing the bronze's hide. He knew that Br'nick wouldn't tell him that they did fine if there was anything that they could improve on. Surely they made a mistake somewhere that led to someone getting scored that might not have happened otherwise. He wanted to rid himself of these thoughts, but they just seemed to keep coming lately.

Br'nick approached the young bronzerider as he was scrubbing the firestone residue from his dragon's hide. He remembered the first few times he had flown thread and feeling the way that Cendarnth had indicated the young man was feeling, but he had been considerably older and a dragonrider for quite some time. "Would you like some help?" he asked as he stopped not far from the water's edge.

C'lor turned to see the older bronzerider standing near him. "If you don't mind getting wet again, I would welcome the help." he replied with a tired smile. More hands meant the work got done twice as fast and then they could all rest.

"I don't mind one bit." he said as he picked up some sweetsand and began to rub a portion of the bronze's hide. "Cendarnth tells me that your bronze is worried about you. Anything I can help you with?" he asked as they scrubbed.

"I keep thinking that there's some way I can improve on our performance. I don't want anyone to get scored because we made a mistake and didn't char a clump of thread we were supposed to. Is it normal to think like that?" he asked letting his worry show in his tone.

"All riders go through thoughts like that in the beginning. You'll be fine, but if it is too worrisome go talk to a mindhealer. They have lots of things that can help banish those sort of thoughts. As long as you stay in formation and flame what you can see, there's no problem from me." Br'nick advised having been to see a mindhealer or two himself especially after the death of his weyrmate.

"Is there anything we can do to improve our performance?"

"Practice, pay attention during drills and stay alert during threadfall."

"How can someone not stay alert?" C'lor asked curiously.

"You'd be surprised at how it can happen. Not enough sleep the night before is usually the most common reason. Looks like we've just about got you clean, Hayreith." Br'nick said as he finished his portion of the bronze.

"Go rinse off and then go show off your clean hide to the ladies." C'lor told the bronze with a chuckle.

"What do you say we go grab something to eat and talk some more, C'lor." Br'nick asked sensing that they could find a lot to talk about. The young man needed to know that he was doing fine and couldn't help anything by worrying about something that wasn't a problem.
