Eleada knocked on K'deren's door, shifting the stack of hides in her arms.
"Come!" called the wingsecond, shifting the report he'd just finished writing to the side.
Eleada poked her head around the door. "Just me. Again." She added with a tired smile as she entered, holding up the stack of hides.
K'deren pointed to a space on his desk. "Getting to you? The hidework I mean."
She shrugged, closing the door behind her and settling the hides in the place indicated. "Not really. I'm not wild about it, but I don't mind it either. It's just been a long day."
"I can get some klah and refreshments sent up while we go through these quickly if that will help," offered the Wingsecond. With no wingleader there was far too much for the both of them to do.
"Klah would be wonderful." She enthused, sitting across from him. "I could use the extra energy. I had my sons and five of their friends over after drills." She said with a faint smile as an explanation.
"I can imagine, I went to see Deralie and Trievan afterwards at their fostermothers and it was hectic to say the least." It was a habit that he'd got into since their mother had died, he felt he needed to reassure them and him that he was still there for them.
"To say the least." She agreed wholeheartedly. Since she'd arrived at Dolphin Cove, she'd been trying to spend more time with her sons than just on the restdays. But until Adaric had nearly been swept away in the tidal surge that flooded the weyr, her efforts had been slacking off because of her wing duties. "I keep forgetting how much energy three boys have, or I never would have agreed to let them have their friends come over. I don't think Arieoss will ever forgive me." She smiled.
"Probably as much energy as two boys and two girls, plus their foster siblings doubled," guessed K'deren as he walked to the door and snagged a passing drudge to bring some klah.
"I don't know." She winked at him to show she was teasing. "I think the age range might have something to do with it. Eight children between ten and eight can certainly set records for harrowing. Makes fighting Thread sound almost relaxing!"
"Now that I can believe," he joked in return.
She laughed, pleased that he had appreciated her little joke. "If only I could use some of these drill formations to deal with them. It might be easier. Although..." She said thoughtfully. "I could see it as a kids game easily enough."
"Sometimes it is almost like a game of chess, but one in which the enemy never learns to give up."
"The kids or Thread?" She grinned again.
"Both!"
She laughed again, a sound that eventually turned into a sigh, although she was still smiling. "All right. Business. Here's the reports for the week, and the roster for the next Threadfall." She handed over the first few items in the stack.
And it was indeed time to get back to business, thought K'deren as he accepted the small stack of hides.
