Notes: A very late copost! Blame Rochelle for the title!

The day after the Hatching, Tsaera sought out Ariau and Alabeith and found them bloodied and up to their chins in chopped meat. And looking rather dazed. The Weyrwoman smiled a little, remembering a similar feeling when she and Tabanirth had first met. "Ariau?"

Ariau jumped, whipping her head around at the sound of her name, but turning back to Alabieth when the gold saw her distraction, and imperiously demanded the last chunk of meat she was holding.

"It's the Weyrwoman." She told Alabieth quickly, not quite remembering in time that she didn't have to speak aloud, and feeling a blush creeping up her neck. She was covered in bits of meat... her chopping abilities were not particularly good, but Alabieth didn't seem to mind as long as there was plenty of it.

"And Alabeith. I'm sure that we'll be seeing plenty of each other."
Tsaera reached out to brush a gentle hand across the tiny gold dragon's snout before turning to her Chosen. "Congratulations, Ariau.
And welcome."

"Thank you, Weyrwoman Tsaera." She said promptly, hiding behind pleasantries as she tried to control her blush. She looked like such a mess... She could feel the blush rising anyway, and hoped vainly that Tsaera would think it was exertion from chopping. Or maybe a rash of reddish freckles to join her coating of brown ones.

"You two are going to have a lot of hard work ahead of you, but with the way you've been attacking that pile of meat... and don't stop on my account, please," Tsaera added, noticing the hungry glint in the baby queen's eyes, "I remember what it's like to feed a gold by hand."

Oh shards... Ariau glanced at Alabieth with a guilty smile. "Are you sure you don't mind?" She asked hesitantly, looking for the towel to wipe her bloody hands enough to get a grip on the knife again. "She really is ravenous. The others look like they're almost done."

}:They are done because theirs are not talking.:{ Alabieth said pointedly, nudging her toward the meat. }:I'm still hungry.:{ "You're not that hungry, or you'd be louder. You've already eaten a whole bowl" Ariau said, picking up the knife, then grimaced. "I said that aloud, didn't I?" She asked sheepishly.

"You'll get used to it. You'll be wearing Weyrling knots so people will know what to expect and you won't be thought of as crazy."

"I'm not really worried about being thought crazy." Ariau admitted, giving up the idea of controlling her blush and just hoping that it didn't turn her ears red. She positioned the knife over another chunk of meat. "I just... I don't know. No, wait Alabieth. Here." She addressed the little gold, and tossed her another hunk of badly chopped meat. She grimaced, realizing she did it again. "I guess I need to remember to at least _try_
to talk in my head." She admitted sheepishly.

"You have the next six months to master it. Right now, concentrate on your fingers and making sure none of them end up in Alabieth's belly by mistake... and come see me as soon as you have the opportunity. I have something for you."

"Something for me?" Ariau repeated blankly. Why would the Weyrwoman have something for her? She had only Impressed Alabieth yesterday. At the thought of the gold, Ariau smiled softly, and the little queen butted her head against her legs. }:More!:{ "Here."

"Yes, something for you, but I'd rather not give it to you while your hands are all sticky with blood. See me when you've cleaned yourself up and filled Alabeith's bottomless belly."

Ariau felt the color return to her face in another rush, and hastily marshalled her wits for a response she could give without looking too ridiculous while chopping meat badly. "Yes Ma'am. I'll come by when I'm done." She paused, watching Alabieth nose a chunk of meat near the edge of the block. She could feel the little gold's hunger abating, although Alabieth still seemed determined to eat an entire herdbeast. "In your office, right?" She wasn't sure where else, but it seemed better to check.

"Yes. Whenever you're ready." The Weyrwoman smiled, her expression softening as she looked at the pair of them. She'd been that young once, and Tabanirth only the size of a small pony... "Congratulations again, Ariau."

"Thank you, Weyrwoman." Ariau replied, blushing, and lowered the knife on another resisting lump of bloody flesh.
