Description: Zandreu finally finds Keayd to organise the resupply of brandy to the Tavern.
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 10, day 1 of Turn 4
This Vintner Hall had certainly done well for itself out of the tragedy of the earthquake at Amethyst Cliff Hold. The new Hall was in a building that had formerly housed a Technician Hall and Zandreu thought it showed in the preponderance of electrical lights that gave even the smallest rooms an open, airy feel they didn't always deserve.
After trying a number of progressively smaller and more artificially lit offices he was finally told that yes, there was a provision for the Tavern to have more brandies if it needed them, and that Journeyman Keayd could help him.
Where was Journeyman Keayd?
Probably in the cellars under the two buildings right behind the Tavern.
Zandreu consoled himself that at least he had had the opportunity to look around much of the ground floor of the main building of the Hall, including a quick peek into the often mentioned kitchens.
By the time he found Keayd, the new Tavern Master had seen more than he felt he needed to of the nooks and crannies of the underground portions of the Vintner Hall, pleasantly lit with electricity or not.
"Journeyman Keayd, I hope?" the master vintner asked when he came across a journeyman with the mentioned dark hair worn longer than most.
Whether than man had a limp or not was impossible to tell since he wasn't walking around, but Zandreu had now accosted so many people wearing journeyman's knots that it was only a matter of time before he found the right person.
"Yees?" Keayd replied, not lifting the gaze from the fermenting vats in front of him.
"I'm Zandreu, the new Tavern Master. There's some suggestion that you're the one to see about getting some more brandy," the master vintner added dryly. If he was sent off to somebody else he was going to get a little tetchy.
"Well met, master Zandreu," Keyad now lifted his gaze to greet the man.
"I'm your man if you want brandies," he smiled.
"Good. Good to hear. Can we organise something now, and have it put aside for somebody to pick up later in the day?"
"Yes, we can," Key said. "This batch isn't ready yet," he patted the vat in front of him. "But we have some finished products over here,"
he gestured the master to follow him to the next room. The walls were lined with barrel after barrel.
Zandreu sniffed appreciatively. It had that distinctive smell of brandy spill and dust.
"So, what exactly are you looking for?" Key asked.
"A standard brandy to serve those who want nothing more. Good quality, but not exceptional. And a couple of examples of really fine brandies, and a couple of more unusual ones. Something for the connoisseurs but if they're really that they can make an arrangement for another visit and we can extend the specifically for their visit."
"Let's see," Keayd said thoughtfully. "Here's good basic brandies," he showed the barrels. "Over there's are few different varieties of fruit or other flavoured brandies. And the really expensive ones are kept there," he pointed the most distant corner.
Zandreu mentioned the daily consumption rates he had worked out from the sales figures. "So, can you let me have two sevendays worth of each kind? You choose which of the special ones to feature."
"All right, I mark them with chalk, so whoever picks them up for you, knows which ones to take," Keayd said.
"Thank you. And in two sevendays? May I come directly to you and discuss the arrangements for the next batch?"
"Sure," Key nodded.
"Then it's been a pleasure doing business with you. Could you send a copy of the invoice to the Tavern, as well as lodging it here with the Hall authority."
"Of course I will," Key promised and smiled.
"Thank you, and make sure you look me up if you visit the Tavern. I'm sure we can find a free meal for you and a friend."
"You're welcome," Keyad said. "I'll drop by some time." Perhaps he could offer his sister a treat, a fancy diner in tavern.
