Any jobs available?

Writers: Jane, Paula
Date Posted: 30th May 2008

Characters: Keayd, Zandreu
Description: Keayd takes his sister to eat at the Tavern and she asks for job from Zandreu.
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 10, day 7 of Turn 4

"Why would you want to find a job?" Key asked from his little sister while holding open the tavern door for her.

"Because father has started throw 'hints' about extra mouth to feed and finding me a husband to support me. I don't want to marry yet. If I got a job and I was bringing in marks to the household, father wouldn't be so quick to marry me off. It would make him loose those extra mark,"
Venciel explained. She was a pretty young woman, recently turned fifteen, with long dark hair and the same almond-shaped brown eyes than his brother.

"What kind of job you could find?"

"I don't know, anything. I heard your new hallmaster has wife and children. Perhaps his wife could use help with the children?"

"She already has, a fostermother named Teene," Keayd told her.

"Aw, there goes that idea," she murmured.

Keyad spotted the Tavern Master behind the bar. "There' s master Zandreu, do you want to meet him?" he asked.

"Sure do," she replied cheerily and they walked over to him.

"Evening, master Zandreu. Did the brandy I sent satisfy you?"

"It's pleased the patrons," Zandreu said with a smile for the journeyman vintner and his companion. "Which is the main thing."

"Good to hear. This is my sister Venciel. Venciel, meet Zandreu, the Tavern master," Key introduced her.

"A pleasure to meet you, Venciel," the master vintner said with a nod for the young woman. "Is this your first visit to the Tavern?"

"Yes, it is. Do you have any free jobs available for a hard working young woman?" she asked straight away.

"Venny!" Key was shocked by her rather blunt approach.

"We very possibly do, but only if you don't have work at home. Do you live with your brother?" he asked, trying to understand her situation.

"No, I live in a cramped cot with a father, step-mother and way too many siblings," Venny replied.

"And your father and stepmother are happy for you to work outside the cot?" Zandreu pressed.

"I can't see why would they object if I bring marks in. We're poor enough as it is now, so little more wouldn't hurt," Venciel replied honestly.

"Perhaps I should hear from your father," the Tavern Master said. He glanced at the journeyman. "Unless you're prepared to vouch for your sister's situation?"

"_I_ stay out of this," Keayd replied quickly and Venny looked disappointed. "Besides, we came here to eat."

"I'll get back to you, Master Zandreu, with my father," Venny promised.
