A Fostermother for Ravyan

Description: Aileyan asks Irlani to foster her son.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr

It was highly annoying and really inconvinient. Aileyan had to find a
new fostermother for her son, again. It would be third. The first one
had moved away when her husband transferred, the current one was going
to get married and move away to a hold! She had gotten a list of names
for potential fostermothers. But so far no luck. Most of them already
had enough fosterlings and didn't want a new one, especially as young
as Ravyan.

"Are you Irlani?" Aileyan asked timidly, approaching the older woman.

Irlani was on her way to meet Gyta for the morning, but stopped and
turned when she heard her name called. She smiled at the woman who
approached and her gazed fell across the baby then lifted back to the
mother. "Yes, I'm Irlani."

"I'm Aileyan, green Kjarliheth's rider. I'm looking for a new
fostermother for my son, and I heard lot of good things about you,"
she said.

"Oh?" Irlani was pleased to know that people thought well of her.
She sighed softly in response to the woman's request. "I'm not sure
if I can take on another child right now. Gyta is...she needs a lot
of attention."

"How so?" Aileyan asked.

"She's been through a lot." Irlani sighed softly. "I'm not sure if
I'm at liberty to tell the story, but she's had a very traumatic
experience and it has affected her deeply."

"I understand that. She needs lot of attention, right?" Aileyan said.
Having some childhood issues herself she could symphatizes with the
situation.

"Yes." She had certainly just said that a moment before. Irlani
paused for a moment, thinking, then tapped her chin with a finger. "I
tell you what. I'll take him for today. Perhaps it's time Gyta
learns about younger children. Maybe if she reacts well I can talk to her about
fostering him as well as her. If she's not open to it, I'll help you
find a foster mother for him."

"Thank you, Irlani," Aileyan said from the bottom of her heart.
"Larani has been his fostermother, but she is getting married and
moving away."

"Not a problem." Irlani opened her arms for the child. "I'll let you
know regarding things with Gyta as soon as I can."

The boy ran to her and smiled. "He's an easy child and not shy at
all," Aileyan said and nodded.

"Hey big boy." Irlani tickled the child's belly. "Are you going to
come with me today?" She grinned at his laugh, then looked back to
Aileyan. "Anything I should know? Allergies? Special needs?"

"No, nothing. I'll pick him after the drills are over," Aileyan said.

"All right." Irlani gave the greenrier a brisk nod and a smile.
"We'll see you then."

"Thank you, you just saved my day, "Aileyan flashed a grateful smile.
