K'mai

K'mai

The bluerider sidled up to Tamaca. "This party is boring," he whispered. "What do you say we get out of here and make our own fun?"

The young woman glanced over at K'mai with an exaggerated sigh. "What? Mediocre wine, no music, conversation that's a repeat of what's heard night after night, and it's not good enough for you?" She nodded toward the door. "The sooner I'm out of here, the better."

K'mai took her arm. "Wonderful!" He grinned and led her out into the hall.

"Who planned that mess anyhow?" she asked as she walked beside him. "At least three people told me of it and I just followed along, so I have no idea whose weyr that was."

"Umm ..." He tapped his free hand under his chin. "J'walis, I think. He's just out of weyrlinghood, so maybe he doesn't know better. I should invite him to one of my parties to he'll see what it's _supposed_ to be like."

"That might help," Tamaca told him, "though unless you let everyone know that you've been advising him, no one will accept his next invitation." She stared thoughtfully ahead of them as she walked. "Then again, I've never actually thrown a party on my own, so I have no idea how much planning goes into it."

"Sometimes a lot, sometimes hardly any at all," he said. "By the way, where are we going? Your weyr or mine?"

"Yours - I have roommates." She made a face. "Dull roommates. That's why I don't throw parties. And for now I've moved back to the candidate barracks, so there are even more people around."

"And since I haven't thrown a party in a few sevendays, my weyr is fairly clean." He chuckled and led them up a stairway.

"Really?" She laughed in return. "I thought most people straightened up their weyrs before they had parties and that's when they were at their cleanest?"

"Well, yes. I was thinking more of what it looks like _after_ a party." He laughed again.

At this her face drew into an expression of distaste. "I'd rather not contemplate that. I've seen the messes that some people make and would prefer _not_ to have to clean up after them."

"Definitely not the funnest thing in the world," he said as they reached the top of the stairs.

Tamaca uttered a low laugh. "I'm sure that I could think of much more fun things to do."

"Me, too." K'mai paused to give her a kiss.

She responded willingly, murmuring against his lips. "This is much better than that party."

"Much, much better." His hands caressed her waist before he turned to continue down the hall.

The young woman glanced toward the doors they passed as they walked, doors leading to individual weyrs. "One of these days I'll have quarters of my own. I'm sick of sharing rooms with other girls who are far too annoying."

"Maybe you'll Impress this time. That would guarantee you your own weyr."

"True. But I'm getting old enough that I need to figure out how I'll do it if I don't Impress."

"Be insufferable. Then no one will want to live with you." K'mai joked.

She grinned as she returned the joke. "Ah, is that your secret? I wondered why I never saw any other people around you."

K'mai laughed. "Oh, yes. I'm so very lonely!"

Tam moved closer, tilting her head to look up at him. "But you don't want to be alone now, do you?"

"No." His smile was slow. "Do you think you can put up with my insufferable nature for a few candlemarks?" They reached his weyr and he leaned against the door.

Her voice was sultry in reply. "That depends on how I'll be rewarded for my patience."

"Very, very well." K'mai opened the door and motioned for her to step inside.

"Then I suppose I can endure it," she told him, as she stepped into his weyr.

He followed her and closed the door. "Maybe I can skip the offer of drinks, since I think we both had a few at the party. There wasn't much else to do." The bluerider chuckled.

She turned to him, gently tugging at his shirt front to pull him closer. "We can save the drinks for later. For now, I'm sure that we can find other ways to pass the time."

"Uh huh ... " K'mai leaned in for a lingering kiss.

Tam responded willingly, pausing only to utter in a husky voice, "I knew that you'd see things my way."
