Date: month 13, day 14 of Turn 4
B'lamick sat back on a bench, enjoying the light melodies the harpers were playing when Latarth interrupted his lack of thought. }:Isleth is back. She says she got to swim with the Dolphin Cove dragons. Why didn't we go? I like all the dolphins there.:{
He straitened up, a frown playing at his lips at the news of Tey's trip to Dolphin Cove. He thought she'd forgotten about the idea of transferring, but obviously not. And that worried B'lamick. **Can you ask Isleth if Tey will meet me here?**
"Hmm? Oh, tell him I'm on my way," Tey said aloud to her lifemate giving the green a final pat. "You'll sleep well tonight after all that swimming - and making yourself at home in their feeding pens." It had been embarrassing that Isleth refused to wait until they got home to eat but the local riders at laughed it off. Well, they had teased Tey unmercifully but she didn't think there was any annoyance behind their laughter despite the Weyr not being fully recovered from the flooding earlier in the Turn.
B'lamick didn't have to wait long. He noticed that she had time to change out of her riding gear into a plain but form fitting dress, and smiled approvingly. "I hear you went swimming today?"
"Don't tell me Latarth's taken to gossiping?" Tey said though her smile was wide and unconcerned as she slipped onto the bench beside him, sitting close enough to nudge him with her shoulder. "Yes, we went to Dolphin Cove. Lovely evening, there. Warm as daytime here, and so busy! They do lots of things after dark, when it's cooler. Very social."
She sounded like she liked it over there and that worried him. What if she decided to leave? "One of those nice to visit but wouldn't want to live there places?"
"Well," Tey dragged the word out, thinking of the many things she liked about her home. "I don't know. Why are you so dead set against it? It's an interesting place and they need riders."
He remembered what F'naren had said, but he just couldn't tell her how he felt about her. He couldn't let things change between them, her friendship meant too much to him. "We've been through this. This is your home. Your friends and family are here."
"It's all right for you, you've already had the chance to leave your home and go somewhere completely different, haven't you?"
B'lamick didn't have a reply for that. He realized that he was being selfish, but if Tey went to Dolphin Cove then things wouldn't be the same between them. They spent so much time together now; drills, meals, rest days, evenings... a few hours here and there when they were both bored wouldn't keep them together. They'd drift apart. "So are you going or not?"
"I don't _know_ yet. I'm thinking about it. Investigating it." She looked at the people who were up dancing to the harper's music and realised that she knew nearly all of them by sight and most of them better than that. She didn't know whether she wanted or didn't want to change that; it was familiar ... but was it boring or not? "I really don't know," she repeated under her breath.
"You'd miss me if you left, wouldn't you?" He knew she didn't have any romantic feelings towards him, it was one of the main defenses he had to give F'naren as to why he wouldn't act on his feelings for her, but with all this talk about her leaving he had to wonder if she felt much at all for him.
"Of course I would," she assured him. "I'd miss a lot of things. Didn't you miss your family when you came here?"
B'lamick looked at the dancers in annoyed contemplation. He didn't want to be one of the many people and things that she would miss, he wanted to be _the_ person she missed, missed enough to make her _stay_. "Yeah, but it's not the same thing. I left because I _had_ to for this life. If I could have been a dragonrider at the Healer Hall I wouldn't have left."
"Oh. I forgot you'd been at the Healer Hall. Does that mean you've left _twice_? Your family and then the Hall?"
"The Hall _was_ my family. It was where I was raised." he replied still lost in his brooding, "But I don't regret leaving them for Latarth, or for you."
"For me?" Tey looked away from the dancers and at the young bronzerider. "You didn't know me -" She considered that. "I suppose you didn't know Latarth when you left, either."
He turned to face her, the greenrider that he had become so completely infatuated with, and couldn't help but give a small smile. "Nope. I didn't."
Tey was smiling. "For me?" she said again. "Really?"
B'lamick felt his breath catch in his chest. He wanted so much to lean over and kiss her, to feel her lips against his, to have his arms wrapped around her pulling her close against him. He looked away instead, back to the dancers. He knew it wouldn't happen, and it did no good wishing that it could. "Yeah, you were sort of a bonus."
