N'vanik

N'vanik

N'vanik tried to keep his temper in check. It was still a new formation, and it wasn't that big of a mistake. Still, he wanted to talk to the brownrider about it. Dismissing the rest of the riders via Loseth, he waved the young brownrider over. "D'rue! Come here!"

**Shards!** D'rue could feel himself shrinking into his riding gear as the Weyrleader called him over. He knew they'd fouled, and they'd fixed it as soon as they could. But he really didn't want to have to face the bronzerider over it...

Better to get it over with now. He didn't know how the man would react to his dawdling...

"Yes sir?" He said reluctantly, trotting over to N'vanik.

"You were too close on the change-over. You could have run into one of the greens." N'vanik tucked his helmet under his arm and unbuttoned the top of his jacket.

D"rue winced. "Yes sir." He said simply. "I'm sorry. It won't happen again."

"Was it just a slip up, or are you having trouble with the new formation?"

D'rue hesitated for a moment, not wanting to admit less than perfection in Wisarth's flying, but forced himself to say reluctantly. "A little of both, sir. We didn't get far enough over before we skipped, and I forgot to compensate."

The Weyrleader nodded. "I suppose we need a few more days of practice before we use it in Fall." D'rue wasn't the only one that was still having some trouble.

"It... might be best, sir." D'rue admitted cautiously. He still wasn't entirely sure how to react to his new Weyrleader. N'vanik was less... sticky about many things than J'darin had been, but he was still the Weyrleader and there was a certain amount of formality for the office that had to be maintained in D'rue's mind. "I'm sure we weren't the only ones who made that mistake."

"No, you weren't." N'vanik sighed. "We have to get this right. I won't have anyone dying because my formation doesn't make sense."

"Yes sir." D'rue wasn't really sure what else to say to that statement. He agreed wholeheartedly, but it was more as if the Weyrleader was talking to himself than to him.

"Well, do you think you need to study the formation some more, or is it just the actual practice you need to work on?"

"Practice, I think." D'rue said promptly. He was planning on studying the formation some more later, and he probably wasn't the only one.

N'vanik nodded. "Alright. We'll give it a few more days."

D'rue nodded. "Yes sir." He said in relief. More time to practice was not to be sneered at, especially if it meant he wasn't going to get into too much trouble for his and Wisarth's blunder. "I think that will be best."

"See you tomorrow, then." They would get the formation right, the Wing just need a little more time. N'vanik was sure the formation was an improvement, but he knew that he would wonder every time someone got hurt or killed if changing things had been a mistake.

"Yes sir." D'rue repeated, bowing slightly more because it was hard to fight years of training than because he felt the Weyrleader was expecting it. "See you tomorrow."
