Description: E'naer meets up with his new Weyrleader in his old office
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 1, day 28 of Turn 5
T'mahl had grown tired of packing pretty quickly. First his weyr and
now he had to face his office, despite the fact that it was a restday.
The new Weyrleader had a lot of help,
which was rather embarrassing. He was not used to people going through
his personal things, even if they were just throwing it all into boxes.
His office was a chore since if he didn't file everything correctly and
fill out all the remaining reports, the next Weyrlingmaster, whoever he
might be, would be lost! He was hunkered over a mound of hidework he
was furiously trying to finish when the greenrider peeked his head
inside the door.
"T'mahl? Good, you're still here, I thought you have already left us
for the bigger and better office," E'naer said with a wide grin. He
was genuinedly happy for him.
"I have a job to finish," he said with a long sigh. After he was done
with this he'd have to get started on paperwork for his new job. "Grab
a pencil and give me a hand?"
"That's why I am here. You're better tell me where is what, so I can
tell that to the whoever fills this office next," the greenrider
walked in.
"It will take some time to interview candidates. I'm not sure my Second
would be quite ready for the job." It was unfortunate, but true. He
needed a bit more experience. They might have to extend their Search
for a replacement outside the Weyr.
E'naer nodded. "Oh, the staff and I, we pooled up our marks and bought
you a little gift. To congratulate you and so you would remember us,"
he said and pulled out a bottle behind his back. It was a bottle of
vintner hall's finest, the most expencive quality he had been able to
find.
"Thats... an incredible gesture," T'mahl said, truly surprised and
touched by their thoughtfulness. To be honest, he thought they wouldn't
really notice his leaving outside of classes and meetings. "I may not
have a chance to thank everyone personally, so if you pass on my deepest
gratitude, I would appreciate it."
"I will. We will miss you," E'naer said. The situation was getting bit
thick on emotions.
"I'm sure I'll be easy to find," the bronzerider said, smiling with his
eyes.
"Probably. But we won't bee seeing much of you. You'll be busy with
the whole weyr and we're busy with the weyrlings. And we are going to
have weyrlings, from your clutch."
"We can certainly use more," T'mahl nodded, secretly pleased at the idea
that his bronze was going to father a whole Clutch of Eggs. A piece of
him would be carried on for the rest of time now. "But who knows what
the future holds. I might be back before you know it."
"That is certainly true. Take a look of River Bluff weyr for instance.
I don't think they have had same weyrleader for longer than a turn,"
E'naer chuckled.
"You're trying to make me feel better, E'naer?"
"I don't know. Do you need made feel better?"
"I haven't flown Thread since the second Fall of the Pass. I'll feel
better when I'll have my first Fall back under my belt." It was
weighing on him more heavily than he cared to admit.
"And I haven't flown in fighting wing since I nearly lost my arm for
the Thread, so I can't help you there," E'naer said, his fingers
automatically moved to brush the scarring on oposite shoulder.
"I nearly lost my life," the bronzerider said softly, remembering the
pain that had shot through his body with shudder. "So many others died
in the sky, /between/, on their dragon's backs, on a healer's table...
Sometimes I can't help but wonder why not me."
"Don't we all," E'naer said.
T'mahl shook his head, trying to push those thoughts from his mind. "I
can't think of that now. But I will admit, I feel like a weyrling going
into their first Flight. I have a new appreciation for that ordeal."
"Well, I wish you a luck with your new career," E'naer just said.
"I thoroughly expect you to keep me appraised of the goings on 'round
here. I'll still need you to be my eyes and ears." Though truthfully,
he just didn't want to lose contact with a good friend, and even though
they would be in the same Weyr, he knew all too well their lives were
heading in seperate directions without someone to keep them connected.
"I can do that," the Wingthird nodded.
"And you can come by for a drink every once in a while, you if you have
the time."
"Thank's for the invitation, I'm sure to make you keep that promise,"
E'naer smiled.
The Weyrleader surely hoped he would. "Right, well, we'd better get to
this hidework, eh?"
"Yes, sir," the greenrider said cheerfully.
