The greenrider grinned at his Wingleader as he walked past. "Hello,
bronzerider," he said as he leaned back against the wall, crossing his
arms lazily.
Dusk had settled over the Weyr and U'das just waited to retire for the
night. He didn't notice the greenrider and didn't realize the greeting
was directed to him. After all, he was not the only bronzerider
around.
R'sedel's pride was rather wounded as the bronzerider just walked past
without a second glance. He had been sure he had looked in his
direction. "U'das?" he called after him, pushing off the wall and
opening his arms in a gesture of confusion. "U'das!"
"Oh?" U'das looked around, he had to squit out his eyes too see the
green rider's form in fading light. He did recognize the voice easily.
"R'sedel?"
"Well, yes," the greenrider said with an amused shake of his head. "You
only looked straight at me as you walked by."
"I'm sorry. I must have been so in my thoughts that I didn't see you,"
the bronzerider's grin was bit sheepish.
"I just hope your thoughts were pretty sharding good, or I just might be
offended," the greenrider gently teased.
"Mostly they were on work," U'das said. "Which makes me boring."
"It does. You need a woman. Or at least a willing greenrider," he said
with a knowing smile. His chances outside the Flightroom were pretty
much non-existant, but he still liked to flirt.
"Ah-hah," U'das said, "We are not in the mating cot right now."
"Women are greenriders too," R'sedel replied with an innocent bat of his
eyes.
"Yes. You're not," U'das pointed out.
"Did I _say_ me?" the greenrider asked, almost sounding offended. "I
know when not to push it. Though you have to admit, under the right
circumstances, I'm not a bad choice."
"No, you didn't say. And yes, I have to admit that," U'das replied.
R'sedel rewarded him with a smile. "It's always nice to hear one's
handiwork is appreciated. But alas," he said with a forelorn sigh,
"Eniidith rarely chooses bronze so it might be a while before we'll see
the inside of a Flightroom together."
"And Zack is getting slower with the age," U'das said with regretful
shake of his head.
"But not his rider." The greenrider knew that from experience!
"Thank you," U'das chuckled.
"Now, U'das," R'sedel said, his face actually serious, which was a
rarity for the greenrider, "tell me truthfully. Were you avoiding me on
purpose? I'd hate to think things were awkward between us."
"No, R'sedel, I don't avoid you. Why would I? I honestly just didn't
notice you," U'das replied seriously.
"Oh well, you know, some bronzeriders can get a little... uncomfortable
around men they've bedded. They think that by paying too much attention
to us outside the Flight room might make people wonder if their bronze
wasn't turning a little green! Usually a man of your experience has
gotten over his squeemishness, but you know, I just want to check." He
rather like flirting with U'das, despite the fact that he knew nothing
would come of it. But he enjoyed the wingleaders platonic company
almost as much as he had their Flight, and he would be sad if he were to
lose a friend over it.
"I've been around too many mating flights to be squeemish," U'das said
with dignity. "I do like you, R'sedel, your fun company and a good
friend."
"I'm glad. Then I will never suspect you again," the greenrider
promised.
"And I promise to pay more attention to my surroundings," U'das
promised. **Or wear my reading glasses outside the office too,** the
thought just fleeingly crossed his mind.
