Description: S'ren and Tareth compete in Ayumith's mating flight.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 2 of Turn 5
As S'ren headed back to his weyr, he was practically glowing with pride. His dragon seemed to be very excited as well... but as he came out of the corridors and into the Weyrbowl, he realised that was probably not because of the promotion.
}: Ayumith rises! :{ exclaimed Tareth.
**Yes, yes, it's not like greens rise every day around here or something,** replied S'ren with a slight note of fond sarcasm as he watched his dragon land by the lake. It looked like he wasn't going to be getting a lift back to his weyr any time soon, so he gazed across the bowl for any sign of Ayumith's rider, trying to remember who it was.
Ayumith hissed at the males gathering round her and fanned her wings. Her hide glowed like a green gem. Aishara admired her beauty and glanced around the chasers. Ayumith was attracting a decent crowd of blues, browns and one or two bronzes.
S'ren finally spotted the young lady, who was beginning to be surrounded by riders, and headed over to join the growing crowd, grinning at a couple of the blueriders he recognised.
}: No you don't, :{ his dragon chided. }: No thinking about not winning the flight till it's over. It works better that way. :{
**Okay, okay,** he replied with amused tolerance and refocussed his attention on the greenrider, who was hardly a hardship to look at. **They're all so young these days,** he thought wistfully.
}: Nothing wrong with a bit of experience, :{ Tareth reassured him.
Ayumith shot into the air like an arrow. Aishara allowed herself to be lost in the bond between dragon and the rider. It was easier that way. She wasn't really aware of her surroundings but felt what her dragon felt. The joy of flying, exhilaration of the chase, the building lust.
Tareth darted into the air swiftly after the green, trying to gain as much altitude as possible. The sun was shining bright in the sky, meaning that his quarry and the other chasers would likely have a blind spot as they tried not to look into it too long. Maybe if he could stay in that direction, he would have the decisive advantage.
S'ren watched the rider lost in her flight, his vision divided between Tareth's tactical overview and occasional lustful glances at the prize he was aiming for, and keeping an eye on the situation on the ground. He rarely allowed himself the luxury of subsuming entirely into a Flight until its conclusion these days, and especially not now with a greenrider he didn't really know and a new promotion hanging heavy on his shoulder.
Ayumith darted around, called her chasers and rose so high up that air got too thin to the dragon's wings. She dove to the cloud-bank above the ocean. She used the ocean winds to gain head from the chasers. First one had already given up, being tired by the swift green. She did turn to look at her suitors and didn't even notice the blue who approached from the sun's direction.
As the less manoeuvrable and less determined chasers began to drop out, Tareth watched Ayumith's appraisal of the remaining field and took his chance to dive out of the sun, burning the altitude he'd kept up from her first dive to close the distance she'd gained on the favourable air currents. Declaring his success, he hoped she would be too surprised to resist, or would choose to give in to his claim of victory, as he swept towards her.
S'ren fell into Tareth's mind as he executed the final dive - he knew that either his dragon would catch or be out of the running after this manoeuvre for sure, and wanted to enjoy every moment.
}: You're a clever one! :{ Ayumith remarked and allowed him to catch her, wrapping neck and tails with the blue.
Meanwhile on the ground, caught up in his dragon's triumph and pride at winning yet another flight, S'ren attempted to sweep Aishara off her feet and carry her into the flight room, or at least usher her in that direction as quickly as was practicable.
Still part of her dragon, Aishara was quite willing to follow him.
