"If we could only get you to the beach," Grehga said with a glint in her eye that betrayed plans being made and reviewed and stored away for later consideration. "I'm sure floating and swimming a little would help you. Not in the pools - the sea is better for floating because it's salt water."
"Huh? Oh." Zelle really didn't want to move from her spot. The fellis had taken effect and she was almost drearily happy. Well, maybe not happy. At least she wasn't completely in pain anymore. She had gotten better, but her wounds were still quite serious, the slash in her side deep enough to be slow in healing. She cocked an eye toward the healer, taking note of her apprentice rank. "Maybe. Not right now, but maybe later."
"Dolphineers wounds heal faster than this," Grehga continued. "I brought your lunch if you're feeling up to eating it." She set the tray down on the table beside the bed. "I'm not sure if that means dragonriders are a sickly lot or if it really is the seawater ... On the whole I think it's the sea water."
"Do they really?" The information sparked Zelle's interest. She really wanted to get back into her own weyr - it was home, the infirmary was not. The greenrider accepted the tray and plucked a meatroll from her plate. "How much faster?"
"Well," Grehga looked thoughtful, another expression which worried some of those who knew her. "I don't know in _days_ or anything. Shall I ask the journeyman about it? If you can be taken down to the beach?" She leaned forward and said in a conspiratorial tone: "Anything would be better than being stuck in here, wouldn't it?"
"Yes, it would." Zelle was tired of looking at same scenery day in and day out. The pain was less, the fellis helping quite a bit. It would be glorious to take a trip to the sea. "Sure, ask away."
"I might need to say it was your idea - they don't like many of mine. Is that all right?"
"If you want - just say I want to visit the sea and am tired of being cooped up here." Zelle managed to cock her head to eye the apprentice. "Why wouldn't they like your idea?"
"Oh, I have lots of ideas," Grehga admitted with a grin. "They get sick of them."
"Heh, you do?" The girl was cute and she was certainly helping to distract Zelle. "Tell me some of these ideas."
"I thought that it would be easier to clean with redwort by using the water pump we have in case of fire." Grehga chuckled. "It went _very_ well, though it probably needed a smaller bucket and hose."
"Did it now?" Zelle didn't laugh, afraid of how her body would react to it, but she did afford a brighter smile. "Do you do experiments like that often?"
"Sometimes. And mostly I'm right but that only makes things worse. I'm quite clever, you know."
"I can believe that." Only half of Zelle's mouth turned upward, the other restricted by the swelling in her face. It was still quite sore too, though not as bad. She was improving, if slowly. "Why don't you come tell me about some of those experiments sometime. It will help pass the time."
"All right. Do you want to hear about things I've done at the Dolphin Hall too? That's where I come from, you know."
"Why don't you tell me one story every time you come visit me." The greenrider suggested. It was an invitation for the girl to stop by and visit with Zelle any time. Distractions were a lovely thing. "Then I'll have something to look forward too - and yes, from the Dolphin Hall too."
"All right," Grehga said again. "Shall I let you rest now?"
"Might be a good idea." Zelle smiled, glad to have made a new friend. She had certainly found out who was and wasn't a friend by the mere fact that certain people had taken the time to come and visit her - more than once as well as to stay long enough to make her feel like they cared. She was going to look forward to further visits with that girl.
"I'll come and talk tomorrow then, when I can get away from the journeyman," Grehga promised then, having nothing more to say, she quietly left the room.
