Don't Mind Losing

Writers: AL, Cali
Date Posted: 17th September 2009

Characters: M'net, Zelle
Description: M'net comes to visit Zelle, his guilt making him eager to please.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 4, day 27 of Turn 5

Zelle eased herself into the chair, letting out a long breath. It was still painful and hard to walk, but not has difficult as it had been only a sevenday prior. Her legs were starting to get a feel for the motion once more and Zelle felt like she was making progress. She had been able limp across the tiny area to the chair that was usually reserved for guests all by herself. It wasn't much, but it was something.

"Oh good, you're up!" M'net said as he peeked into the room. He grinned when he saw her sitting in the chair; every time he saw her out of bed, he felt a little less consumed with guilt for the accident that had injured them both. He held up the bouquet of flowers that he'd brought her, he brought a new bouquet every day, and replaced the most wilted of the flowers from the three vases he'd brought to house all of them.

"I was wondering where you had gotten to." Zelle grinned as M'net moved inside. He had become a constant in her days, much like K'hetah, though K'hetah's visits were the ones she especially looked forward to. The flowers were nice, though, and she knew he still felt bad for everything that had happened.

The bluerider took the seat he always took by her bedside, "I was just out with Yereth getting him some dinner." His wings weren't quite strong enough yet to allow him to fly over the herd, but he could jump onto the slower ones, and he preferred it to M'net just giving him cold meat.

"Rillith is about where he is in recovery." Despite the collision, Rillith hadn't sustained as much damage. No, Zelle had, but she didn't resent M'net for it - not any more.

"I think she's more advanced." M'net tried to cheer up the greenrider. He wanted the beautiful grin back on her face, not that pained expression she tried to hide. "She has alot more wing mobility than Yereth when I wash her."

"That's a good thing, though Yereth will improve in time." It was still a ways to go before they were all healed, especially Zelle. She shifted and winced without meaning too.

M'net instantly sat up and looked around for the cup of juice she sometimes got that was laced with fellis. "Are you in pain? Where's your juice?"

"It's gone." She motioned to the cup that had tipped over after she had emptied it. Zelle let her hand fall. "Do you mind getting me some more?"

"No problem, I'll be right back." He knew right where the healers kept everything too. Once he'd been back on his feet, they'd pretty much gotten used to him helping out and fetching things that Zelle and a few others needed since he spent so much time in the infirmary.

Zelle closed her eyes and waited. M'net was nice and she knew he felt sorry for everything that had happened. She had come to accept it, forgive him for his hastiness, and deal with the fact that sometimes things just happened. She didn't open her eyes again until she heard his footsteps and she smiled when she saw he had brought what she asked for. "Mixed in fruit juice?" Straight fellis was not a pleasant thing.

He beamed when he saw that smile. He'd caused that, by coming back, he was sure. "Of course, and I brought plenty so you wouldn't run out."

"Thanks." Zelle reached out and took the cup when she handed it to him. She drank about a third of it, then set it to the side. "So tell me what's going on in the Weyr while I'm stuck in here. I don't want to be left out of the loop."

M'net chuckled, "I wouldn't know. I'm here whenever I have free time. Though I did see the weyrlings working on their aerial drills. That new Weyrlingmaster seems to be leading them well, they didn't look too bad."

"So I've heard." A couple of other visitors had commented on that. Zelle was familiar with the name, but she didn't really know the Weyrlingmaster. "K'hetah keeps me up to date...and brings me things to do." She grinned and poked lightly at M'net. "You should too."

"I bring you me!" He loved it when she touched him. "I'm highly entertaining. Shall I juggle for you again?" He threatened since the last time he'd attempted, he'd nearly broken a vase when one of the redfruit had gotten out of control.

Zelle laughed. "Maybe not that. You could bring a game. K'hetah brought one not too long ago." That had been a lot of fun, but not as much as getting out of the blasted infirmary.

"That fellis will make you loopy in a few minutes." He reminded her as he twirled his finger in the air next to his head. "I'll win."

"It used to make me quite loopy." Zelle halfway agreed, then shrugged. "It doesn't make me as loopy any more. I guess because I've been taking it so long."

M'net frowned, if it wasn't making her loopy it wasn't working, right? She was probably in a lot more pain than she let on, but was trying to be tough. She'd probably refuse to take a stronger dose if he suggested it... so he'd just put a little extra in the next time he refilled her cup. "A game it is then, I'll be back, I know where they keep some cards."

"Poker?" Zelle suggested as she shifted a bit on her bed. "I'll beat you every hand."

"That's okay, I don't mind losing!" He called happily as he danced out the door, pleased with his new plan.
