Ailyn

Ailyn

Wonderful smells waffed out to greet him as Firon walked into the kitchen.
His wife stood with her back to him, stiring the fragrent stew that would be their supper. He walked up behind her unnoticed and smiled when he heard her singing softly. He knew that tune! Grinning he wrapped his arms around her and whispered into her ear, "Isn't that the song you were singing the stable the day we met?"

Ailyn grinned, glancing at him out of the corner of her eye. "You have a excellent memory, my love. But at that time, I believe I was singing it to a foal instead of a meal..."

Firon smiled, happy to see her so cheerful. Her father's death had hit her hard, and he had given her time to grieve. But he had missed his wife's beautiful, enchanting smile. "And you were wearing light green that matched your eyes."

"Mmmm... And wearing riding trousers underneath that dress! Not that _you_ knew that... And Mama was furious when she found out, but Papa laughed at her and winked at me..." Her voice trailed off at the memory and a sad smile touched her lips before it faded. "But you couldn't tell, could you?" Ailyn's grin was back as she began stirring the stew again.

Her husband could see her slight flicker of a frown as she remembered her father. He knew she would never forget the sadness of her loss, but he was determed that at least tonight, that frown would not return. His lips brushed along the back of her ear as he whispered, "I could tell there was _something_ under your dress. Trust me, I was looking very closely."

Ailyn clucked her tongue, though her chiding was half-hearted. "Your roving eye made me blush more than once that day. Oooh...that makes me shiver, love..." One shoulder scrunched up as if to ward off the light, teasing touch of his lips on her ear.

"And do you remember how my roving hands made you blush? The night when our engagment was announced when snuck away from the party and into the stables?" His hands worked to give her a reminder of that night. "There were a couple ways you touched me that night that made me shiver."

Oh, Ailyn remembered. "Firon..." She didn't know if that was a teasing warning for him to behave, or if she was encouraging him to keep touching her the way he was. Blushing lightly, she turned off the stove and set her hands on top of his, stilling them on her waist. She had a feeling they might not eat for a while yet...

He chuckled as he kissed the skin beneath her ear, spurts of warm air tickling her neck. "I don't know what made me more nervous, the fear that I would do something wrong, or the fear that someone would come out to check on the runners."

"Luckily, the stablehands don't usually go up in the haylofts," Ailyn grinned. "And luckily for us that night they didn't!" The hayloft that they'd hidden out in had been one of her "secret hideaways" when she'd been younger. It had been at the back of the building, high up off the ground. She remembered that they had made a nest out of the old saddle-blankets up there - worn soft from good use - and mounds of hay. She leaned her head back against him, a slow smile curving her lips at the memory.

He swept her hair over her shoulder and pulled at the laces of her dress, exposing the skin of her top few vertabre easily. Now it was a practiced move, but he smiled as he remembered how his nervous fingers fumbled with the ties. His lips moved down her spine starting at the spot where it met her neck. "What shocked me was that we were never missed from our own party."

Her eyes fluttered shut of their own volition as his warm mouth moved across her skin. "With kegs upon kegs of wine to drink and all that food being served? I was surprised anyone could remember their own _names_ the day after!"

He smiled as he slipped the dress off of one shoulder. "Remind me not to drink the wine when our future children have their engagement party," he whispered in her ear huskily.

"Mmm. But... But if we don't drink it, then what excuse will _we_ have to retire early?" Ailyn asked, her voice a bit breathless. "We might want to, you know..."

"That's a very good point," he murmered as her dress fell to her waist. "Let's just make sure to claim the loft first."
