Go to Bed

Date Posted: 24th October 2009

Characters: R'syl, Dei
Description: R'syl works late and is ordered to bed by the late night house keeper.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 5, day 14 of Turn 5

The knock on the door disturbed caught his attention, sharp and precise on the heavy wood. R'syl groaned.

"I'm sorry, but I already told you..." He trailed off as he recognized the woman entering with an empty tray. It was the late night cleaning woman -he'd gotten on very friendly terms with her over the last few sevendays. He grimaced. "Sorry Dei. I thought you were one of the craftmasters again."

The brunette frowned at him. "Well, I'm not. Why are you still up, Weyrlingmaster? You should be in bed by now."

"Don't start." He dropped the pencil onto his desk in favor of running his hands over his face. "Besides, you're early."

"I'm in the middle of my shift." Dei pointed out. "You should be in bed. It's after midnight!"

"I have to finish rescheduling the candidate classes for the Headwoman." R'syl dragged his fingers down his cheeks. "There's a bunch of kids on her staff that still haven't been able to get to classes."

"Can't you work on it tomorrow?" She removed two of the mugs on his desk, both stained with multiple layers of klah rings on the inside where he'd been forced to let the liquid sit while he dealt with disasters.

"No, it has to go into effect tomorrow, or she won't have enough people to balance the ones in classes."

Dei shook her head. The cleaning woman was refreshingly direct a times, and R'syl had found that he liked her company -or at least, she was a good distraction when he was still at his desk two candlemarks after midnight. "I think you should just go to bed, and tell them they didn't have to show. Honestly sir, you look like death warmed over."

"What I look like doesn't matter." R'syl replied irritably. "What matters is getting my work done."

"Maybe so." The woman agreed, "But you still need sleep. You're going to be useless for anyone if you don't go to bed.

"I'll get there eventually." He promised, watching his empty klah pot disappear from the desktop.

"Try now." Dei told him , not unkindly. "You're falling over in your seat."

"The better to investigate the floor." R'syl smiled weakly at the cleaner, who snorted.

"Very funny." Dei shook her head as the Klah pot joined the stack of dishes on her tray. She turned to go, looking pointedly at him over her shoulder. "Good Night, Weyrlingmaster." She finished pointedly. "Go to bed."

"Eventually."

"No not eventually, now." She sat the tray down, and slid the schedule from his unreisting fingers. He really was tired, if he was accepting advice from the early morning cleaning lady, it probably was a sign she was right. He needed to go to bed. He sighed again.

"All right. As soon as finish the schedule."
