**Now?**
}:Now!:{ Tagrerth's response was echoed to a group of dragons sunning themselves. }:I will fly now, you can chase me if you wish.:{ Aerrath was out in the Weyr, soaking up the sun on his brown hide, with blue Fall curled up on his back. R'yin was seated nearby, working through some flight formations he had thought of a few sevendays ago. The brown had been asleep a few moments ago, but suddenly he stood to his feet, shaking off his blue companion with a croon to a nearby green. It took the brownrider a few moments to grasp all the various emotions and sendings in his head. His head swiveled to the young greenrider who appeared to belong to Tagrerth.
Stunned, R'yin didn't move at first, though Aerrath was insistent. Why _that_ green? }:She is beautiful! I will chase her!:{
And that was that. Unwilling to argue with his beloved brown, R'yin joined the growing circle around Nytha. He would never deny Aerrath the chance, even though his heart was never in it, in Flights. Just his body.
M'galec, as usual, was in the middle of something very important when the summons came. Then again, in his mind, _everything_ he did was important. Like today when he was trying to teach apprentices the difference between vertical mattress sutures and horizontal mattress sutures. He was, in his own mind, the most qualified surgeon to teach such techniques, and so it bothered him to no end to hand off the class to a Master Healer to finish. **I'll just have to make up the class another time,** he sighed to himself as he hurried towards the waiting circle.
Tagrerth shot into the air. she headed out over the sea, her head turning back to see who was following. Nytha however, had nothing but smiles for the riders gathering around her. Tagrerth had never let her down before. U'das had been planning drills when Zack expressed his wish to chase the green. The wingleader was actually glad of the interruption. It certain beat hidework. He and Zackariath joined the ring around the green's rider just when the green shot upwards. The bronze launched after her as soon as U'das's feet touched the ground. It made U'das loose his balance and he landed on his bottom rather unflatteringly. He cursed and got quickly up. If he was lucky, they were all too engrossed with the mating flight to notice it.
Brushing off the dirt, he joined the other men.
Even with the frequency that Sebeth chased, K'mai never got tired of flights. The lust, the excitement, the chance to spend time with someone new, or to reconnect with a past partner. Even losing wasn't bad, although he much preferred winning. Sebeth bugled his agreement from high above.
R'masu was still wondering why his brown had chosen this particular green. Kannoth didn't chase often. }:She is beautiful,:{ was the only answer given. The whims of dragons ... R'masu shrugged and let himself be carried along.
}:Ooh, this is good, but...:{ Tagrerth took a turn, heading back over the weyr. }:you'll need to keep up with me.:{
}: Oh, we will, you young beauty! :{ Zackariath declared with loud bugle.
Aerrath stretched his wings and crooned after the lovely green, challening her suitors with her words. R'yin, on the ground, had lost his hold on himself and was now flying high with his brown. It was the only way... and frankly, the best way ... to handle Flights. The brown dragon even dared to challenge bronze Zackariath for the prize swooping in front of them. }:I will catch you, so lovely... :{
}:You all want me, how nice,:{ called Tagrerth, climbing high.
Dwarkanath was hanging back, biding his time in the middle of the pack. A blue dropped out, and then another, and a brown, and young bronze, all expending their energy way too quickly. But the seasoned bronze knew it was time to make his move. Using his stores of energy, he beat his wings to gain altitude. He would swoop down from above and claim that green for his own!
Kannoth dipped just below the pack to catch a thermal and passed a few of the males. There were only a few dragons between him and Tagrerth now. He was ready to match her next move, not too close in case she made a sudden turn.
Faster than the browns and bronzes, Sebeth kept up with the green. He counted on her tiring, or better, choosing him. He was the best, and he told her so. On the ground, K'mai took a step closer to Nytha.
Zackariath was taking full advantage of his smaller size and slipped between others to the front row. }:She is mine! :{ He growled at Sebeth. } Choose me, lovely one!:{ he called to Tagrerth.
But Tagrerth had made her mind up. }:Hey bronze boy!:{ she called. }:Yes, you over there, I want you.:{ She gave a sudden turn, placing herself in the path of Dwarkanath.
The bronze bugled his triumph as he swooped down and caught her in a graceful spiral, his rider simultaneously reaching out to the young woman. It would be some time before he would be able to return to his students, but for a change, he didn't much care for duty. All that mattered was that he wanted to wind himself around that woman like his bronze had her green.
Realizing that his changes were gone and the green had made up her mind, Zack dropped out and started to lazily circle down back to home. U'das also withdrew from the circle of men and started looking around for someone who could work out that flight lust with him.
R'yin felt aching disappointment and sudden need as the winner was declared by the simple fact of Nytha being wrapped up by M'galec. But the ache passed a little later and he found he was partly glad they had lost. But he still needed a release... he looked as he staggered away from Nytha.
