J'darin

J'darin

Chuckling to himself, J'darin paused to reflect. This trip to D'wrayt's weyr was almost identical to the last time he'd come to visit his fellow bronzerider. He was carrying a skin of wine, and also coming unannounced.

Their last discussion had been one of the reasons for J'darin to make this huge change in his life. He wondered, in the months since then, if the bronzerider had made any progress in adjusting. J'darin never had adjusted, so he understood completely. He hadn't even been Weyrleader half as long as D'wrayt and he still had felt completely useless without some sort of .. job. What must the man who's door he was now knocking on, be feeling? Knock, Knock.

D'wrayt glanced up from the strap he was checking when he heard the knock on the door. He wasn't expecting anyone, but it wasn't like he was doing anything that couldn't wait. So, the bronzerider put the strap aside and got up to answer the door. He opened the door and grinned when he saw that it was his friend, J'darin. "What a nice surprise. Come on in, J'darin." he said holding the door open and gesturing with the other hand.

J'darin smiled at D'wrayt and followed him into his weyr. "Its good to see you again, friend." He offered, and found a seat and some glasses. "Wine?"

"Of course, I never turn down wine. What brings you to Dragonsfall?" D'wrayt asked settling into the other chair after moving his straps to the shelf. He was always up for company lately and even better when they brought something to drink with them. At least he wasn't holed up in his weyr all the time like he had been for awhile after the loss of his first weyrmate. Being Weyrleader when he lost his second love, Jaela, had kept him busy enough to not have time to hide in his weyr.

He opened the wine and poured it while he considered how to tell him. Best say it straight out. Would he mind, terribly? "Well, my friend, Dragonsfall has become my home. I officially transferred here yesterday, and will be the new Weyrlingmaster. So, I'm here to stay. And I wanted to visit you right away."

"That is wonderful. I'm sure T'mahl is glad to have you. If you need anything let me know." D'wrayt said with a smile. He had known that there was a new Weyrlingmaster coming and was glad that it was his friend. He hadn't been sure how he would feel about seeing someone else in a spot that he could have filled, but he felt allright knowing that J'darin was there.

"To be honest, D'wrayt, I don't know how you're handling it, but I was handling N'vanik being Weyrleader at Dolphin Cove incredibly poorly. Its so difficult to watch someone else care for them, especially when he so casually dismissed all I went through and _did_ for those same folk when I was Weyrleader. I asked for a simple transfer, but when I met with T'mahl, he offered me this position too." He paused a moment then smiled conspiratorily. "I'm going to need help you know. E'naer seems quite capable..." He'd met with him this morning. "But do you know any bronzeriders around this Weyr that might want to lend a hand?" He asked disingenously, smiling from ear to ear.

"It's been hard. I may know someone who can help. You wouldn't mind that he's a former Weyrlingmaster and a former Weyrleader, would you? Sometimes he's rather strong willed, but will do anything for his Weyr." D'wrayt replied grinning despite himself. He had contemplated asking for a transfer, but this Weyr was his home and he would just have to learn to deal with having someone else in charge of it.

J'darin laughed outright and raised his wine to D'wrayt. "He sounds just about perfect, then. " He let a little breath out. Good. "I completely understand... " He shook his head a little. "I suppose I should have stayed in Dolphin Cove and learned to live with it. Its not as if this kind of thing doesn't happen all the time. I'm not as brave as you, my friend. "

"I'm not brave, just stubborn. I was born here and this Weyr is all I truly know. I've thought about leaving, but I am afraid that I wouldn't like living some place else." he admitted glad that he would have something else to occupy his mind. His children and grandchildren did a good job of it, but they couldn't be with him all of the time he wasn't working.

J'darin nodded. "It feels a bit like home to me too, since I was born at Amethyst Cliff....." He sighed, shaking his head at the memories. D'wrayt would have his own painful memories too. "Well here is to stubborn bronzeriders! We shall be a comfort to each other." He smiled, toasting his friend again.

"To stubborn bronzeriders." D'wrayt replied lifting his glass and grinning. He was going to enjoy having his friend nearby.

What more could you say to that? He drank his wine and prepared to enjoy coming home immensely.
