K'deren

The last few days had left the goldrider reeling as her emotions
seemed to be getting the best of her. Past experience led her to
suspect that her gold would be rising sooner rather than later.
Jyramikah stretched and peered out at her lifemate who indeed was
starting to glow ever so slightly. Her stomach rumbled loudly and she
took a step backwards so as not to wake the gold. Jyra quickly dressed
so that when the sleeping gold was ready she would be as well. She had
been left to make her own way to the feeding grounds before and was
not going to repeat that experience.

As she finished tying her laces and popped a cold meatroll into her
mouth, Ikoladith stirred. **Good morning, love.** she said keeping any
emotion out of her voice other than love and admiration for her
dragon.

Ikoladith sleepily shook her head and lumbered to her feet. }:It is a
good morning, but we must hurry. I am hungry.:{ the gold replied
pausing just long enough for her rider to mount before taking off
towards the feeding grounds.

Once at the grounds, Ikoladith wasted no time in selecting a herdbeast
and bringing it to the ground. **Blood it, Ikoladith!** the goldrider
reminded the hungry gold forcibly. Being hesistant would not do today.
She couldn't help the soft snarl that escaped her lips as she glanced
at the men beginning to surround her as their lifemates readied to
give chase when Ikoladith decided she was ready to take to the sky.

H'lek was on his way to the Dining Cavern when his dragon broke into
his still sleep muddled thoughts, }:Ikoladith is blooding! She rises
and I will chase her. Come!:{ The dragon's voice - usually calm and
collected - was already thick with lust and a thread of desire began
to wind its way through the rider's mind as well as he changed
directions. Any lingering drowsiness, which usually clung on
stubbornly until the brownrider had enjoyed at least his second cup of
klah in the morning, was quickly replaced by the excitement of the
impending Flight.

**Do you think you'll win?** He asked as he made his way to the
feeding grounds where other riders were gathering while their dragons
fueled up for the Flight.

}:I will! I am strong and fast and I will win!:{ The brown dragon
bugled a challenge at the other males gathering.

** Ikoladith? You are going to chase a _gold?_ ** N'mor's tone was
incredulous when he ran to catch up with his bronze. Kedvencth finally
stopped long enough for N'mor to mount him.
}: Why not. I'm a bronze. Bronzes mate with golds, :.{ he replied and
took to the air.

**A young bronze.** N'mor thought and added very privately inside his
own mind **They mate with greens too.**

They reached the Hatching ground in no time and N'mor slid back down.
Ked went to join the other suitors around the Blooding Gold and N'mor
joined the growing ring around the gold's rider. He was very nervous and quite
a bit apprehensive. This was their first Gold flight.

B'ram was shirtless, his hair was still dripping, and his feet bare, the
dirt and sand sticking to them as he padded up to the circle. He
thought Girifith was being a _little_ ambitious chasing after a gold,
but he knew his brown was strong and agile, and it would be nice to show
up a bronze for a change!

}:I can catch her. I've come close before,:{ Girifith assured him as he
eyed the bloody-muzzled gold.

**I think you've been spending too much time around Nyith,** the
bronzerider said with a grin, but he too was being to believe it was
possible.

**I know you can do this,** K'deren assured Donneth, **Ikoladith knows
you and that has to count for something,** the brown was told as his rider
hastily scrawled a note for his 'third before joining the small crowd.

Similar thoughts ran through I'lan's head as Naath was attracted by the
gold and the sight of her blooding her kill. **Go for it,** he told him.

After blooding her second herdbeast, the gold looked around her
briefly before springing into the air with a bugle of challenge to
those who thought that they would catch her. Airborne, the gold
quickly gained altitude and was soon high above the Weyr determined to
keep away from the males as long as she could.

Brown Tilleth answered the challenge with a rining bugle of his own
and took off after the rapidly receding gold. He quickly found an
updraft to help carry him skyward. Tilleth was on the larger size of
average for a brown, but not close to bronze size. So, he knew he'd
have to be careful about preserving his strength. He also knew that he
was faster than his larger competitors and more agile. He had won only
one goldflight in his life and was determined to make it two.

On the ground, H'lek had just arrived when the gold and her suitors
took to the air with deafening roars and a swirl of wing-driven wind.
He drifted closer to Jyramikah, along with several other men, though
his mind was soaring through the air with his dragon for the most
part.

Kedvencth followed her to the air, staying in middle of the group. N'mor
lost his conciousness to the intense dragon lust. It felt even stronger
than during green flight.

Donneth was just behind the young bronze, hissing a little at the
eagerness of the dragon. He knew that time would tell, surely
Ikoladith would go
for experience.

Girifith was slightly ahead of the pack of bronzes. As a brown, he was
slightly smaller and faster than they were. But he knew he could not
keep up this pace as long as the others. He hoped that his chance would
come sooner rather than later. }:Turn around and look at me!:{ he
called to the gold flying ahead of him. }:I'm strong and I can fly you
well!:{

Ikoladith heard the brown's words, but refused to let him slow her
down by looking back at him. }:We shall see.:{ she called as she
picked up speed and turned on an updraft so that she was over the
males going the opposite direction causing them to have to turn
rapidly to keep in the lead.

Jyramikah smiled and laughed as she took in the flight from her
perspective on the ground as well as through the eyes of her gold. She
was torn from enjoying the flight and trying to make sure that the
gold didn't injure herself. **No more acrobatics. Watch out for the
brown.** she admonished the gold lightly.

Naath was quick to catch the updraft himself and follow Ikoladith. He
wasn't ready to try anything fancy, just wanting the gorgeous gold he
saw ahead
of him.

Tilleth overshot and missed the turn the others managed to keep up
with the gold, which put him at the back of the pack. He roared in
frustration and began flying faster to catch back up, sacrificing his
chance for lasting through a long flight for the chance to quickly
catch up and catch Ikoladith.

Girifith could feel the burning in his wings as he pushed himself
harder. He could see movement on either side as other suitors not only
had caught up to him, but were ready to pull ahead. With all his
strength he forged ahead.

Donneth was there too, he wasn't going to miss out on this, not if he could
help it,

Kedvencth stayed with the main pack, observing keenly the situation. This
was his first Gold-flight and he was unsure of himself and of what to do.

Ikoladith was starting to tire and turned her head to see who was
still in the chase. She saw a few males that she felt were worthy and
called to them, }:Who can fly the fastest? Come and get me.:{

Having caught a current of rising air that helped him speed along in
his efforts to catch back up, Tilleth was flying slightly higher than
the gold and the males following her. The brown replied to the
challenge by putting on a further burst of speed, knowing the end was
near and longevity no longer mattered. He quickly began passing above
the rest of the males.

He bugled in triumph as he tucked his wings, diving between the
leading dragon and the gold. As his dive brought him to the gold, he
snapped his wings back out and reached out to tangle himself with the
her, announcing, }:I am fastest and you are mine!:{

On the ground, H'lek stumbled toward Jyramikah and pulled her close,
just as his dragon had tugged the larger gold to him.

Kedvencth bugled out his disappointment and started to circle back to Weyr.

This time was not for them, a disappointed Donneth told his rider.

Naath's bugle was almost as loud as Kedvencths, but the feeling behind it
was the same. Soethings just were not meant to be.
