Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 8, day 13 of Turn 5
It was one of the stranger things Tatitem had seen in a while.
But she wasn't going to stop it. No, this promised to be _far_ too entertaining to prevent, and it was unlikely to cause permanent damage to either party.
Still... maybe she should...?
A little whistling snore emitted from Thief's nose, and Zip froze, the feline watching the sleeping green with unblinking eyes. Tatitem quirked a half smile, and continued wiping down the table in her quarters.
No, this was going to be worth it, if nothing else for the satisfaction she was going to get watching the feline extract a double revenge on the thieving little firelizard.
The feline began to creep forward again, using the knitting basket as a cover should the little green wake suddenly and notice her imminent danger. Thief slept soundly on, curled contentedly in Zip's box around the feline's favorite rag-snake that had been mysteriously missing for the past few days. Undoubtedly the favorite toy had been secreted in one of the firelizard's many holes somewhere, until the silly green had forgotten that she needed to hide it from the original owner.
Zip crept forward a few more inches, his belly so low to the ground Tati could see his fur flattening. He was almost to the edge of the rug now. A few more steps and he would be within pouncing distance.
Tatitem finished the table and turned to watch, trying to hide her smile behind a stern expression when Zip glanced in her direction to see if she was going to interfere. Apparently, it didn't work, or perhaps the feline didn't care if she saw what he was doing, because a second later he had taken a flying leap and pounced on the flit.
Thief shrieked, thrashing wildly as she was nearly flattened underneath the weight of the slightly larger feline. Zip howled in triumph, claws extending and scrabbling ineffectually on the flit's hide as he attempted to wrestle the flit out of the box and away from his stuffed tunnelsnake.
But Thief, even in her panicked state that had apparently driven the realization she could go /between/ to get away out of her mind, was not relinquishing the stolen item. Even as the two animals tumbled around in the box, Thief screeching horribly and interspersed with Zip's indignant yowls, kept one claw locked firmly around the center of the toy.
Somehow, Thief managed to get herself turned upright, although Zip was still wrapped around a large part of her backside and idly attempting to sink his teeth into one of the wings flapping at his nose, and attempted to dart out from under the feline. It didn't work -at least not completely. Thief managed to run halfway across the room under the weight of the feline, dragging Zip behind her like an odd sort of fuzzy cape as she squawked and flapped wildly, trying to take to the air with the feline still attached.
Zip however, despite the obvious joy on his face of a feline in full hunting mode, had only one goal on his mind. And when Thief waved the toy tunnelsnake just a little to close to him, nearly whacking him over the head with it, he wasted not time snapping and grabbing the end of the tail in his teeth. Prize won, Zip released Thief, rolling off her back and causing her to shriek even louder when the feline clipped the edge of her wing nearly trapped it against the floor.
It was the entertaining showdown that followed that made Tatitem glad she hadn't gotten involved. The toy tunnelsnake had not been as completely severed from Thief's grasp as Zip had hoped, and the little green was clutching the head to her tiny chest as if she could protect it from the feline by force of will. For a long moment, there was a strange tableau as the feline and the flit played tug of war with the stuffed tunnelsnake.
Then, with a loud ripping noise that heralded the end of an era, the little snake ripped down the side seams and became not one, not two, but eight pieces as the thread which had held the whole thing together snapped and then unraveled underneath the strain.
The two animals went fell backwards, their momentum adding an extra twisty somersault to Zip's repertoire and turning Thief into a small whirring ball of wings and tail until she collided with the base of the couch.
There wasn't any help for it. As the painfully expressive faces of the two animals turned her way, Zip disappointed and Thief betrayed by the frailties of the ancient feline toy, Tatitem collapsed into a chair, and laughed.
