Healed again

Writers: Eimi, Paula
Date Posted: 29th November 2010

Characters: M'galec, U'das
Description: M'galec checks out how U'das has recovered from his Scoring.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 11, day 22 of Turn 5

While he waited his turn to Healers, U'das watched the other patients
and tried quess what brought them in. Boy with a cast in his leg and his
fostermother were obvious. Nervous looking, pale young woman, pregnant
perhaps? Bored bluerider, routine check-up? Based on the itching on his
shoulder, his thread score was now healed, and he only needed healer to
confirm it and clear him. Zack's wing was another matter, they wouldn't
be returning to air quite yet.

It was a fellow bronzerider that strode through the door into the
waiting room, flipping through a folder full of sheets of paper as he
walked, completely confident that he knew where he was going without
having to watch where his feet were going. "Wingleader U'das? Could
you follow me, please?"

"And greetings to you too, M'galec," U'das murmured, grinned and got up
to follow the busy healer/weyrlingmaster's second.

"Thank you, and my duties to yours as well," M'galec muttered, only half
hearing what he had said. Pulling back a curtain, he finally lowered
the folder and gave the bronzerider his full attention. "So, we need to
see how your Threadscore has progressed."

"The way it itched, it should be healed over by now," U'das said and
started to pull off his shirt, to show him his back.

M'galec suppressed a sigh. He certainly wished people would stop trying
to diagnose themselves and leave it instead to the experts! "Well,
let's just have a look then, shall we?"

"All right," U'das said amiably, althoug inside he wondered why healers
always said we, even when they clearly meant : _I_.

"Remove your shirt, please," the healer said, pointing a writing pencil
at the tunic almost as if U'das might not have meant which shirt he was
talking about.

U'das pulled the shirt rest of the way and put it aside.

"Do you have full movement?" M'galec asked as he looked at the newly
healed skin.

"Yes, nothing new there, I never been able to scratch my back," U'das
grinned.

"That must be inconvenient," the healer smirked, leaning in to get a
closer look and lightly fingering the pinkish skin. "How is your
lifemate healing?"

"His wing is stil sore," U'das replied. "One of the days he's going to
sprain it one time too many and were off to retired wing," he predicted
with sad shake of his head.

"I am sure that day is long off in the future," the healer said as he
lifted U'das' arm to see how the movement effected the skin. Of course,
he knew that day would come for all of them eventually, if they survived
that long. But M'galec knew better than to say that thought aloud.

U'das just made a non-verbal grunt as a responce.

"Will you move both of your arms around for me? Up and down, front and
back, wrist up and wrist down." M'galec studied the movements and saw
there were only slight differences. "Well, your injured side will take
a couple sevendays to come back to full strength, but I'd say that there
was no permanent damage. And I think that you would be fit for flying,
if your bronze were ready for it."

"Well, I'm glad that at least one of us recovers quickly," U'das said.

M'galec jotted down a few notes and pulled a form out from the back of
the folder. Thank Faranth he had thought ahead rather than have to
waste precious time waiting for an apprentice! Scribbling his findings
on it, he held it out for the Wingleader. "Here you go. You are
cleared for duty."

"Thank you, M'galec," U'das replied.

"Now, just because you are cleared does not necessarily mean you are
ready to push it's limits. Your muscles need time to build their
strength back up." Too many riders tried to use their injured limbs in
the same fashion as they had before the accident, only to end up in the
infirmary once more.

"Yes, yes, I know that," U'das wasn't some young fool. He had been
battered around long enough to know his body's limits and to respect
them.

Oh those cocky bronzeriders, M'galec thought suppressing a sigh. They
were usually the first to end up back under his care. Ah well. "I
believe that we are finished here, U'das. I hope your bronze will be
cleared soon as well."

"So do I," U'das said and pulled his shirt back on.
