"Hello Y'gel. Mind if I join you?" R'masu asked.
He looked up with a smile. "Not at all!" he waved the other man into a chair.
R'masu set down his tray and took a seat. "So how is your day?"
"Oh, I'm half way decent." he said. He ran his hands over his short
hair and stretched. "It's been a long one though. How about you?"
"Good, good. I'm doing drills again. Kannoth is healing nicely and
should be back flying Fall soon." It was a relief the injury hadn't
been worse.
"Excellent!" smiled the big dragonhealer. "Just don't push him too
hard too soon. He'll know his limits and if he seems tired, make sure
he rests. The rider had taken instruction well from the beginning and
he didn't really believe it would change now, but a reminder was never
amiss.
R'masu smiled. "Always the healer."
Y'gel laughed, a hearty robust sound that came from deep in his chest.
"Well, its my nature after all these turns." He picked up his ever
present bottle and offered to share.
R'masu lifted his cup. "Thank you. Any interesting things happen to
you since we last talked?"
The big guy shrugged. "Not much other than work. How are things going
with you?" Y'gel kept his head buried in dragonhealing so much of the
time that he sometimes missed important goings on until someone
brought it up over drinks.
"Nothing as exciting as Kannoth's scoring. I've been practicing for
the Turn's End concert." R'masu was taking it easy this turn, playing
a few older songs and doing one set as part of an ensemble.
"Oh really!" smiled Y'gel. "That should be fun. I'd love to hear you
sometime if you wouldn't mind my tone deaf ear. What do you play?" he
didn't think he could remember.
"I can manage with any instrument, although the results are a bit
varied." R'masu smiled. "I play gitar best and do a fair job with
violin and flute."
"I've always admired Harpers. Though I couldn't begin to do what you
do." He looked down at the table a moment then grinned rather
sheepishly, "How do you stand up in front of all those people?"
"How do you sew up a dragon's wing?" R'masu countered. "We all have our skills."
"Yes we do," he chuckled. "Doesn't make me any less envious." He
lifted the bottle offering some to R'masu.
R'masu held out his cup. "Thank you. I get envious as well. Sometimes
I wish I had a more useful Craft, such as you do. You save lives, I
entertain."
"Oh it's useful, trust me." He smiled and poured. "I can't imagine
life without it. I can't play myself mind you, but I dearly love to
listen." He raised his cup and downed the remainder before placing it
back on the table for another refill.
R'masu nodded. "I remind myself of that, that music enriches life. I
see the joy on the faces of crippled dragonriders or old aunties, and
I remember that what I do _is_ important."
"Yes," he agreed. "Yes, it is but then so is drinking! So why is your
cup not empty yet?"
R'masu put the cup to his lips and drained it in two large swallows.
"There! How's that?" He grinned.
"A Start!" said the big man and poured him another.
"Only a start? Should I plan on getting drunk tonight?"
Y'gel slapped his knee. "I certainly wouldn't mind the company!" He
tossed off the last of his own drink and refilled it.
R'masu considered his cup for a moment. "Well, why not? It's been a while."
Y'gel grinned liking the man more and more. He did tend to drink a
little more than those around him but he only ever started after the
sun went down and was fine before it came up again. Besides he liked
the company. "Hey maybe you can get your gitar and I'll pound on the
table." He pulled up the bottle again. "We may need more of this
first."
"For you to gather the courage to pound on the table?" R'masu teased.
"Exactly!" he said after he set the bottle down. He started slapping
the table with little sense of rhythm.
R'masu laughed. "Maybe a few more drinks will improve your rhythm."
Y'gel bellowed with laughter. "Oh I doubt that very much R'masu. But
I'm not averse to try."
