Description: Famell enjoys a chat at the celebration that names him the new Hallmaster
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 1, day 14 of Turn 6
Irabel wound her way through the bodies, all people she knew, all there to
welcome Famell. Well, it wasn't a welcome to the Hall as it was a welcome
to the position of Hallmaster. She was among those who had come to the
small reception put on in celebration of it and scooped a glass of wine from
a tray as she made her way to the man. She had to wait, a couple in front
of her, hands shaking, her eyes watching as congratulations were given.
Once they moved onward, she stepped forward and inclined her head, her
voice soft as she offered, "Congratulations, Hallmaster."
Famell was rather amused by the whole scene. These were people he lived and
worked with everyday, and now they were treating him like he had someone
changed. True, his position within the Hall had changed, but he was still
the same Famell he had always been. It was a shame they couldn't have moved
the celebration to the water chamber so the dolphins could have joined in
the antics. Yet, he knew there wouldn't have been nearly enough room for
everyone to gather.
He chatted pleasantly with the other craftmembers, most all from the Hall
itself, but a few other visitors had come to join in the celebration as
well. He nodded towards one of them as they shook his hand. When they
finally moved on, all he could think of was that he needed another drink.
Looking up, he found a familiar face. "Ah, Irabel, Thank you." He said
kindly to her. "Would you care to walk with me as I find I'm rather
parched."
"I saw a tray this way." Irabel motioned with her hand, then turned in the
direction she had indicated with every intention on leading the new
Hallmaster to where he might be able to fulfill his desire. She gave him a
sidelong glance and took another sip of her wine. "So how does it feel to
be called 'Hallmaster'?"
He followed her with ease, weaving his way among the crowds, stopping to
smile or shake a hand or accept a congratulations here and there. As they
approached the table he was by her side. Her question made him chuckle a
bit. "It's strange." He replied with ease. "I'm using to calling someone
_else_ Hallmaster. I don't think it's quite sunk in yet. In fact when I hear
someone else say it, I still find myself looking around as though I expect
to see our former Hallmaster."
"Well, I suppose you'd better get used to it, and quickly." Irabel's lips
quirked up and she plucked another glass of one, but this one she handed
over to Famell. "Did you ever see yourself as Hallmaster?" She queried
softly.
He accepted the glass with a nod of thanks, his expression a thoughtful one.
"I guess every young lad dreams of such things when they first enter their
craft," he sipped, pausing a moment, "Honestly, though I just wanted to do
my job and do it well. It never really occurred to me that the position
would become an option in my time here." Famell shrugged a bit, "I can't say
I'm not pleased though," his eyes twinkled a bit at that. "Though I imagine
it may mean less time in the water with Tafa than I would like."
"You'll just have to be sure to make time with her." Though Irabel could
understand how that might not be possible. A whole new world had opened up
and there was going to be a learning curve at the very least, though she had
no doubt that Famell was very capable. "And I'll be sure Kerchek and I
spend some extra time with her if you like, sir."
"That would be great, Irabel. Tafa's a pretty independent sort, so she will
be fine, but I think _I'll_ be the one sorely missing her if I can't get in
the water as much as I'd like." Famell knew there was much he would have to
see to, now that he was in charge of keeping the hall up and running. "It
would have been grand if they could have joined us for this little
celebration," he remarked, though he'd already done his fair share of
celebrating with the dolphins.
"We're a dolphin hall. One would think our party would be outside with
them." Except it wasn't, but Irabel wasn't really the one who could change
anything. "Perhaps you could amend that in the future, Hallmaster."
"Now _that_ would be kind of party." He leaned in towards her though and
added with a wink, "I don't think some of our non-dolphineer visitors would
appreciate that, even though I know we would!"
"Well, perhaps we could make it a more private event." Irabel suggested
with a raise of her eybrow, the stemp of the glass twirled between her
fingers.
Famell chuckled softly, "While that certainly appeals to _me_, I'd likely
find the hall on the outs with some of the nearby holds! They feel it is
their duty to visit here and partake of our sweet fare!" He was grinning as
he looked over and watched one of those said holders filling a plate full of
lots of sweet treats and delicacies. He leaned in and whispered to Irabel,
"You'd think they didn't eat in their own holds."
"Could just have a dolphineer party. It doesn't have to be a grand
affair. Just throw something together last minute, don't tell anyone
about it til the day of." Irabel suggested with a twinkle in her
eyes. "We could spend most of our time in the water with our dolphin
friends. I'm sure they'd enjoy that as well."
"Perhaps in the future, we will have to consider that," Famell smiled
towards her. However, in a matter of moments, he was being pulled to
turn in the other direction as someone else was vying for his
attention. He glanced back and smiled his thanks to Irabel for a more
pleasant for moments than some of the others he had to endure this
eve.
