B'ram

B'ram

"Okay B'ram, here's the deal." K'nure turned a chair to face away from the brownrider and sat down on it backward so that he could rest his elbows on the back. His canine settled himself at his feet and gave B'ram a 'here we go again' look. "You, me, a wheel of cheese, and your lucky shorts today at sunset."

B'ram nodded. "Right, and I bring the wine and greenriders."

"Good. And the oil?"

"Already in my bag and ready to go. But I don't think I can find the right kind of rocks..."

The bluerider waved his hand to dismiss B'ram's concern. "Any round rock will do, as long as it's even remotely flat. You'll come up with something."

The brownrider shrugged. "Well, the screen doesn't have to be perfectly flat."

"No, but it sure makes it easier to cook everything evenly." The bluerider was quiet a moment, his head full of herdbeast and vegetables. "Anything else we've forgotten?"

"Blankets."

"Blankets!" Nobody liked sand getting into uncomfortable places, or food. "I can track down a few." He leaned forward. "So. Who have you spoken to?"

"Well, I have Birdalla for me... But I wasn't sure if you preferred a man or a woman."

K'nure batted his eyelashes at the brownrider. "B'ram! How thoughtful. I'll have to disappoint you and say that deep down, I'm really a lady's man." Not that he was _overly_ picky, though. If B'ram rode blue - or green - things might be heading in a slightly different direction.

B'ram had learned never to assume with a bluerider. "All right, because I'm thinking inviting Covimei. Apparently, from what Birdalla says, she's had a thing for you for some time now."

The name wasn't ringing any bells. _That_ was embarrassing - and slightly flattering. "Covimei?"

"Yes, the red haired girl in the Queen's Wing. Her dragon is recovering from a threadscored wing... ringing any bells?"

"Oh. Oh!" K'nure _thought_ he knew who B'ram was talking about, now.
Last time they'd met face to face he'd been more than a little drunk.
"Don't tell her I asked."

"So is she ok? Or do you want me to look for someone else?" B'ram hated trying to pick up girls for other men. It rarely worked quite the way they had planned. Having a girl who already liked K'nure would make things go a lot smoother.

"Perfectly." The bluerider was quiet for a moment. Covimei, with the red hair. "Do you play poker?"

"I have played a few times," B'ram nodded. A few being about a few times a _week_ back at Far Island, but it was not wise to reveal his experience to a potential opponent.

K'nure grinned, anticipating a few easy marks. "I'll bring a pack of cards then. A little poker's always good when the conversations stalls." And before the wine kicked in. And after the wine kicked in.
And after the wine kicked you.

"Sounds like the makings of the perfect evening," B'ram grinned. He couldn't wait for the sun to go down...
