D'arvn

D'arvn

Amizth had been proddy for days now and U'fouinn was getting rather
anxious for her to rise. He'd hardly been able to stand the company of
others without either eyeing them like a nice juicy steak or almost
snapping their heads off the moment they even dared to speak. Having
resigned himself to another restless night of waiting and mood swings,
he'd tried to work on his latest weaving. When he made an error in the
piece he actually got so angry with himself and the weaving that he
hurled it across the room. Clearly working out his frustrations with
weaving was not going to help. He decided he would take a nap and try
and forget the world around him for at least a little while.

He was aroused from his sleep by the cry of Amizth. Rubbing away the
confusion as he rubbed his eyes, it took him a moment to realize that
she was _finally_ rising. "Thank the stars!" He muttered, darting off
to the flight rooms that awaited them.

Amizth was soon bugling her intent to all the Weyr. }:Who will chase
me this day? Who will dare to catch me in the skies?:{ She taunted the
males around her, her wings fluttering with intent to rise just
moments before she pushed off from the ground and took to the air.

Inneth bugled his response. She was one of his favorites and he took
every chance to chase her. His lifemate laughed from his seat in his
weyr. **Go on, you brown ouf, and good luck!** G'reyan stood to
stretch and then make his way quickly down to the Flight rooms. At
least this was a male rider that was smaller than him, for once.
There was nothing more damaging to the short brownrider's ego than to
wake up next to a male rider that could tower over him!

P'gon scrambled away from what he was doing when his blue announced
that he was going after a green. When the man got to the Flight room
and saw the boy who's green was Rising, he licked his lips in
anticipation. **Fly well Uinth!** Oh yes, this would be a good
Flight to win, that was for sure!

M'nael had been bathing his blue Forsyth at the weyrlake when Amizth
rose. The light-colored blue watched the green in fascination, before
announcing to his rider his intend to pursue. }:I want her, I will
make her mine!:{ He said defiantly. M'nael's lips curved up in a smile
as he headed over to the flight weyr. He had to admit that U'fouinn
was an attractive man, and one he'd gladly meet between the sleeping
furs.

D'arvn startled awake as U'fouinn leaped from their bed and
simultaneously Falzeth declared his intention to chase. D'arvn swung
his legs over the side of the bed and pushed off. His head was tender
from a little too much drink the last night. He staggered a moment
getting into his pants.

"Had to be this morning." he grumbled.

R'yin was already awake; he tended to wake early, sometimes well
before the sun. But even if he had not been awake, Aerrath's loud
bugle would have woken him. His brown, for some crazy reason, had
decided to chase a Rising green. Aerrath didn't chase _that_ many
greens! Shards! Who was it going to be? He scrambled onto Aerrath's
back as the brown leapt from their ledge, glad he was already wearing
pants and a loose tunic.

}:It is Amizth. She is beautiful, mine. Look at her! I will have
her. We will both feel better then. :{

Shells!! Now his _dragon_ was trying to "cure" him by chasing greens?
Too bad Aerrath didn't realize that Amizth's riders was a young man
named U'fouinn and definitely _not_ someone who would make R'yin feel
"better".

He groaned but tried to hide his disappointment from his dragon. He
didn't want to do anything to hold back his lifemate, he deserved all
the help R'yin could give him to win the Flight.

D'arvn finally had his pants on and tumbled his way into the flight
room to stand with the other riders around U'fouinn. He was looking
especially ethereal this morning. He could feel Falzeth's urgency and
heard him crooning to Amizth. Normally they were together necks
entwined but all bets were off when she rose.

Amizth soared into the skies, dipping and darting up and down,
enjoying the feel of the wind whipping past her fast, sleek body.

}:Who will win me this day?:{ She called to the males behind her,
feeling a boost of eager energy at the sight of such wonderful males
soaring after her. She knew she would have to be on her best to avoid
being caught before she was ready. Turning sharply, she darted down
and back around, zipping under the males and heading back the
direction they had just come from. }:I am too fast for all of you!:{
She taunted, her tail swishing even as she pumped her wings.

U'fouin felt the press of bodies around him, but his mind was one with
Amizth. Nothing mattered but the feel of the air against their hide,
the calls of the males as they tried to keep up with her tricky, sharp
twists and turns. He could feel the exhilaration of flight removing
all senses, except one, the sky and the mating. U'fouinn's whole body
was primed. His body tense as though he himself were flying through
the skies.

}:I will follow you anywhere:{ bugled Falzeth.

}:He's only a blue! You couldn't do better than me!:{ Inneth called,
his large brown wings stroking steadily behind her.

Uinth snorted and bumped into the brown to throw him off stride. What
that beautiful green needed was a strong, fast blue like him. He
could feel his lifemate's intense longing and spurred himself to try
just that much harder to stay ahead of the rest.

She could feel her wings straining now with each wingstroke. Her time
was running short, she knew she could easily choose one. Looking over
her shoulder she saw the pack, mostly of blues, with a smattering of
browns mixed in. She knew who her lifemate would want her to choose.
Her eyes scanned the skies for Falzeth, spying him just to her right.
Amizth twisted in the sky to move towards him, but she had misjudged
the placement of the others. Suddenly she found her wings entangled
not with Falzeth, but with the brown Aerrath! She at first tried to
cry out that this was not what she'd intended, but then she felt his
wings encircle her and all was forgotten except for the pleasure of
the joining in the skies.

Aerrath bugled in triumph, his persistence and stamina paying off
against the blues. He had caught her, the beautiful, wily green.
He cared little that she may not have intended him, only that _he_ had
won her!

R'yin was lost in the beat of Aerrath's wings, and then quickly became
lost with U'fouinn on the ground. With a cry, he pulled the young
greenrider to him, wanting only to feel what Aerrath and Amizith felt
in the sky. And while he did not normally pursue men, there was no
choice once the dragon's choice was made, and the Flight took him..
and them... over in a rush.

D'arvin gave an involuntary gasp as he came back to himself. He
realized Falzeth had not won the flight and R'yin carried the prize.
He shrugged off the hands that offered to console him and staggered
out of the room and back to their weyr in confusion and pain.
