"Thanks for coming with me today." B'vin said to D'cal as he removed the harness from Serenth. "Healer Jansen wasn't too keen on letting me fly out to this cove by myself and I just wasn't comfortable swimming will all those people at the Weyr."
"Don't worry about it," D'cal smiled, glad to help his friend any way he could. "This is a pretty little spot. Nice and protected from the big waves."
B'vin nodded, "Serenth and I used to come out here all the time when we were first allowed to fly, it was our private hideaway." He patted Serenth's smooth green hide and sent her off into the warm water. "Well," D'cal said as he stripped off his shirt, "let's get in the water! We can't waste such a beautiful day on the sands, now can we."
B'vin removed his shirt as well but then fiddled with it's placement while D'cal waded into the water. Once D'cal was a fair distance out he shucked off his pants and waded in as well. The scarring on his side and leg were very large and still pink enough to draw easy attention. That was why he had wanted to come to this cove, where no one would stare at him; and he knew that D'cal wouldn't care about the scarring, but that didn't mean he wanted him to see it. "How far out did the Healers say you could go?" D'cal asked once B'vin had waded naval deep.
"Hmmm, they didn't really put any restrictions on that. Jansen just suggested laps to improve my leg strength." he explained as he swam out further. He really did feel so much better out in the water, his leg didn't seem as feeble out in the buoyant ocean. "You could pace me if you wanted, but I'm not up to speed yet." "I'll keep up with you. But let's not go out too deep. If your leg stiffens up, it would be best if we're close to shore." D'cal was still pretty confident in his water rescue skills, but he didn't want to test it.
"Fine with me." B'vin agreed amiably, "I don't need any _more_
problems!"
"Well, let's get to it, then," D'cal smiled as he rolled over onto his side.
B'vin tried not to over exert himself while he did his laps. It was hard to not push though, he felt like he was going so _slow_. Serenth paddled along with him for the first few minutes but soon got bored and left him to go sun with Aosorath on the beach. After a while he started to feel his strength give and the muscles in his leg start to tighten. "Whoo," B'vin exclaimed slightly out of breath, "I think it's about time for me to head in."
"You've done really well," D'cal nodded as he turned towards shore.
"It's best not to push yourself today."
"You don't have to get out yet." he said hastily when he realized D'cal meant to get out with him, "You enjoy the water for while, I'll just rest on the beach."
"No, it's all right. I don't mind getting out and keeping you company," the bluerider said as he continued towards shore.
B'vin sighed in resignation and took a few strokes towards shore before stopping. "D'cal, would you mind waiting here until I get out and get dressed." He didn't like sounding so weak and shy, but he _really_
didn't want D'cal to see his leg. His friend frowned slightly. "Is it your Threadscore?"
He focused his gaze at the shore, "It's just... Yeah."
Dyaera was the same. Didn't they understand that it just didn't _mean_
anything? That Threadscore was nothing to be ashamed of? "All right, B'vin," he sighed. "If it bothers you that much, I'll wait."
It was obvious to B'vin that he had hurt is friend's feelings, and he wanted to explain, but what was there to say? After sneaking another look at D'cal, B'vin headed towards shore, hoping he could somehow make it up to him in the future.
