As Calm As Can Be

Writers: Bree, Dana
Date Posted: 12th December 2005

Characters: Dantial, Traelyn
Description: Dantial checks up on Traelyn again and is pleased that she seems to be doing better.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 9, day 4 of Turn 3

"Dantial? It's Traelyn," the Weyrwoman said as she stuck her head in his office after knocking once.

"Come in!" Dantial stood and smiled at the Weyrwoman, his smile far more friendly than usual. Karaleigh's pointed questions about why he hadn't spent time socializing with Traelyn had made him very aware of how much the new Weyrwoman probably needed a little friendship.

She smiled back. "And how're you?"

"Well." Dantial gestured to the chair before sitting in his own again. "We just moved O'dan out of the infirmary, and he asked me to make _especially_
sure that you know that he's breathlessly awaiting a visit."

She laughed, shaking her head as she sat. "I'll be sure to stop on by!"

"I'm sure he's looking forward to it," Dantial replied dryly. "So how are you today, Weyrwoman? Are you feeling any better since our last visit?"

She nodded. "The first month's over, so things are settling down a bit more now, Dantial."

"Good." He flipped open her file and reviewed the last few things he'd written before. "So you're sleeping better?"

"Yes." Sometimes she still woke a couple times in the night, but it was better than before.

"And eating?" Dantial looked up and raised an eyebrow, giving her a stern look. "I hope you've been doing _that_ more regularly as well!"

"I have more of an appetite than I did."

"Good." His expression changed to a smile. "I'm glad things seem to be going better for you, Traelyn. But I want to see if we can get you feeling excellent instead of just better."

She inclined her head. "The...stress level is easing, Dantial. It's helping."

Dantial hesitated before leaning forward. "I didn't fully appreciate your level of stress last time, Weyrwoman... and I'm sorry for that. Being new to the Weyr, I'm afraid I didn't understand how... unusual the circumstances were around your arrival."

"Unusual is an understatement," she told him with a slight grin, lifting her eyes to his.

"So it seems." Dantial returned the smile. "But things are more... calm now?"

She nodded. Part of that, Trae was sure, was because she and her Weyrleader were on better terms. Much better terms... It was as if they'd started on a fresh slate - and she was glad for it. "As calm as they can be under the circumstances," she replied with the hint of a good-humored smile.

"Well, then." Dantial made a note and closed her file, smiling. "As long as you promise to keep things that way, I suppose I can stop making you come to visit every few sevendays, though of course you're always welcome."

Trae smiled at him. She liked O'dan's younger brother. "It'd be nice if we could see each other sometimes _beyond_ the doors of your office, Dantial."

"Well, if you come to visit O'dan, I'm sure you'll see plenty of me,"
Dantial replied, trying not to show his surprise at the idea of the Weyrwoman wanting to spend time with him. "Perhaps you could join us for dinner some evening?"

"I'd like that."
