N'vanik

N'vanik

She had eaten her fill and spoke to the people she was supposed to
make nice with. Rhosyn had taken one turn with R'ehn and now the
Weyrwoman was sitting, drinking water as she regained her energy.
The music was good, thanks to the harpers in residence.

N'vanik walked up to her, smiling. "Just the woman I was looking for."

"Oh?" She downed her glass and looked up at him. "What did I do?"

"Nothing yet." He gave her a little bow. "May I have this dance?"

She set her glass aside and stepped up to him. "Bout time."

He chuckled as he led her to the dance floor. "I had to make nice with
everybody first."

"You're not as fast as I am. Speaking of which..your new Wingsecond..
he was at Vista Point with me." She smiled, wondering what he might
make of that. "You picked a good one."

"I hope so. I'd hate to have picked a bad one."

The music was a more coastal sort. It had a rhythm that made her want
to sway her hips. Rhosyn caught the beat and began to dance, turning
and moving slowly but continually.

He put an arm around her waist and moved with her. This song was
perfect. He pulled her closer, his hands brushing over her arms, her
sides, her back, everywhere he could get away with in public.

She allowed him to do what he wished. Even though Rhosyn had never
come to see N'vanik at his Weyr in deference to Janani, she would have
this moment, in front of everyone. Her eyes opened and closed and she
licked her lips. "Good harpers you have."

"They always seem to know the right thing to play," he said close to
her ear. He knew people were watching them and he didn't care. No,
that wasn't true. He _liked_ it.

She brushed against him from time to time, but it wasn't even about the
nearness to N'vanik or the music. It was about being with him in front of
_his_ people. It was what she wanted, more than anything, but due to who
and what they were, it couldn't happen like she wanted it to. The Weyrwoman
gave herself over completely, just rocking and dancing.

}:Has mine gotten herself in trouble yet?:{ Orlaith inquired curiously.

}:No trouble. They are dancing,:{ Loseth answered. }:Mine feels good.:{

}:Did your children do all right?:{ Orlaith could feel different feelings
coming from Rhosyn, but it was nothing to be concerned about. She was enjoying herself.

}:They chose well, and they are all healthy. Angdelouth and I are very
pleased.:{

}:Mine are doing well as weyrlings. They prepare to fly:{ Orlaith sounded
very pleased, as well she should.

}:Maybe I will see them when N'vanik and I visit.:{

The song ended and N'vanik felt reality creeping back in. He looked
down at Rhosyn. "One more?" he asked as the harpers began a slow song.

"The others might be jealous," she smiled, noting the women on the edges of
the dance floor. "But I submit to your wishes, Weyrleader. This is your
Weyr, after all." Her eyes told him differently, but Rhosyn was behaving herself.

"I couldn't let you go so soon." He lifted her hand and kissed it
before pulling her close. He didn't want to let her go at all, but he
was expected to dance with other women. After this dance he'd find
another partner, and there were probably plenty of men waiting to take
a turn with Rhosyn. He wondered if he'd be able to sneak in another
dance with Rhosyn later.

"It's a shame I have to go home and be all alone," she sighed gustily.
Her arms went around his waist and shoulders as they continued to dance.
At this point, many of the onlookers would have begun to whisper amongst
themselves.

"Come back on the restday."

"Me? Here?" She frowned, looking back at him seriously. It had sort of been
an unspoken rule, she had thought.

"I told Janani about us. She said she's fine with it." He thought
Janani was at least a little jealous, but he wasn't going to bring
that up. He didn't know if it would please Rhosyn or make her less
likely to visit.

The goldrider was considering things. If he had told the other woman, that
meant he wanted her to know. N'vanik had done a good thing. "So do I have to discreetly come back or.." It was one thing for her to come. It was another for Orlaith's presence to be common at another queen's Weyr.

N'vanik shrugged. "Whatever you feel comfortable with, though I'm not
exactly sneaky when I visit you."

"Right but K'sedel doesn't give a shell. And...it's different. Golds
are territorial by nature. And two senior queens..." A dragon's attitude was known to bleed into their rider's and Rhosyn knew just how much of Orlaith was in her. Angdelouth was a newly-sitting queen and it was tricky business with that.

"As long as they aren't Rising, it shouldn't be a problem. And Angdelouth doesn't seem overly possessive."

"Well fine, but if you get me slapped in the face, it's your fault." She sighed and decided she would try it out and see. As the song finished up, she slowly pulled herself back from him.

"I take full responsibility." N'vanik still didn't want to let her go.
Not yet. He pulled her close again and kissed her.

She went quiet and soft then. Rhosyn's eyes closed and opened. She wasn't
quite sure about this public display but it didn't seem to bother him. If he didn't care, then why should she? When it was over, she stared at him. "The other girls are going to get upset," she said quietly.

He smiled, his eyes dark. "Let them. Let them understand that I might dance with them, but you're the one I kissed." His arms stayed possessively
around her waist.

She smiled as she looked up at him and in that second, Rhosyn was like
that happy little girl she had been before her father had died and she'd been sent off from her family. The girl disappeared after a few minutes to be replaced by the woman who had learned a few hard lessons.

N'vanik kissed her again, very light and brief. "Time for me to go
back to being the polite host." What he wanted was to keep dancing
with her, maybe all night.

"Go on before they start to say you're rude." She pinched his rear and sent him off, seeing Y'gel over to the side. Rhosyn headed back to her escort, deciding she wanted to be pampered for a bit.
