The Weyrwoman had a mission-to improve U'das' family relations. It
seemed his relationship with his son was less than desired and she
didn't like her Wingleader unhappy. So she walked through the Weyr
in search of the offending rider, ready to get him to patch things up.

U'fouinn was working in one of the weaver classrooms. He'd been lucky
enough to find a bit of spare time and had decided to try and use the
time to improve upon his craft. As he plucked at the string, he
concentrated on the design he was trying to craft. For some reason his
work never seemed quite as nice as the other apprentices. Looking at
it now with a critical eye, U'fouinn sighed. If only there were more
candlemarks in a day. Perhaps then he'd have the time he needed to
really become a better weaver.

It didn't take her long and it would surely cause the poor rider stress
when her head popped in the door. "Ah, there you are." Her eyes rested
on his head and it was clear the Weyrwoman had plans. "U'fouinn, I'd
like to have a chat."

"Me?" He all but squawked when his eyes fell on the Weyrwoman who
had called out to _him_. "Of course, Weyrwoman," U'fouinn stated
standing to do whatever she asked of him. He couldn't imagine anything
he'd done that was wrong, but needless to say he felt his palms go sweaty
as he contemplated what she might wish to see him about.

"How long has it been since you spoke to your father?" she asked
directly, wondering just what he was going to say.

"Um," U'fouinn replied, a bit taken aback by the abruptness of her
question. "I see him around every now and then," he replied. He said
hello, but didn't _really_ talk to him. U'das just didn't seem to
understand and U'fouinn was not about to let himself feel shame for
who he was simply because his father was in the picture when he'd
hardly been around most of his life. Sure they'd had an occasional
visit, once a turn or so, but he was more like a distant relative than
a father. Clearly he'd never been interested in what happened to him
because he'd _known_ of his preference for other men.

"But you don't speak to him. Why?" Rhosyn was a creature of honesty so
it wasn't in her to prevaricate.

"Um," U'fouinn replied. He _hated_ being put on the spot or pressured
in any way. It always made him feel uncomfortable. He had to admit she
was a bit abrupt and direct, which was not the way most of his friends
were with him.

"We just don't. We were never really close," he added with a shrug as
he looked to her wondering why she felt it was important to delve into
his personal life when they'd hardly spoken at all in the past.

"He wants to speak with you. It seems something happened." She looked
at the ceiling and then back at him. "I don't know what it is, but I do know this-my father died when I was young and my entire family was split apart because of it. You have yours...I know in the Weyr it's different but...you could at least talk." She frowned, thinking he was acting like a child.

"Something happened?" U'fouinn looked up at her sharply, focusing on
those words more so than what else she said. "Was he hurt?" U'fouinn
might not have been close to his father, but he _did_ care. He allowed
her other words to sink in and frowned. She acted like she _knew_ what
his life had been like. Her experiences were different, yet she seemed
to think she could understand. "What happened to him?"

"He's back to duty now, but he was hurt in fall sometime ago and he had
to step down from his duties. J'ren ran the Wing. It could have been far worse." Granted, that had been a few months ago, but it still mattered. "Did you not know?" She frowned, seeing that he really didn't talk to him at all.

"Oh," U'fouinn breathed a sigh of relief. "I thought you meant
something had _just_ happened to him. I knew of his injuries from
before." Though he hadn't really spent any time with him even then.
Right now he was happy making his own life with D'arvn and not
worrying about what his father thought of him.

"Listen, I'm not going to order you to go see your father, though I very
well could. However, I think that it would be a good idea. And then the
ball is in his basket. But I think that you'll find it will all come out in the wash and then there will be one more person around to support you."
Rhosyn saw the concern, though it was fleeting and that gave her hope.

U'fouinn frowned in contemplation. "I'll think about it." He replied. Perhaps she had a point. At least if he made the effort then it would be up to U'das to go from there. At least then U'fouinn would know that he'd reached out, done his part and could leave it at that no matter what would happen.

"Allright then, I'll leave you alone." She headed out, ready to see what else she could to in order to make her Weyrfolk happy. If they only knew...
