Description: The two newly Impressed men speak after the Hatching
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 18 of Turn 6
The newly hatched brown Raisheth had been asleep for quite sometime
now. The post-Hatching festivities had ended, and most of the guest
had returned home. T'aesh laid in his bed, starring in wonder at his
little brown dragon laying on the small stone couch. _His_ little
brown dragon! After all the years of waiting and rejection, Raisheth
had finally come along and chose Taeshin, now and forever T'aesh as
his life-mate. To T'aesh, it was if the world were brand new and
perfect, nothing else mattered now that Raisheth was here, an ever
present comfort in T'aesh's mind.
T'aesh's reverie was broken by the creaking of a bed across from his.
He looked up to see a bronze dragonet sleeping, and a familiar shape
lying in the bed next to it. "Tanom?" T'aesh asked and thin shook his
head. "T'nom" he amended quickly "you awake?"
"Yeah," the other boy responded, shifting to sit up on his bed. "I
don't know how anyone can sleep after all that excitement!" T'nom was
still reeling from the overwhelming emotional attachment he'd
experienced when Taldeth had chosen him. "It's finally _our_ turn,
Tae..I mean, T'aesh." He grinned, visible even in the murky darkness
that bathed the weyrling barracks. T'nom shifted and moved the few
feet towards his friend's cot. "That's better, now I don't have to
squint to see you in the dark!"
T'aesh grinned at his friend. Today was monumental for them both.
After Turns of Standing as Candidates, both of them had finally
Impressed. This moment was already filling T'aesh beyond bursting,
and the fact that his friend had Impressed at the same Hatching only
added to the occasion.
"Can you believe it? Us...riders!" T'aesh exclaimed, and then
subsided as an already sleeping weyrling complained about the noise.
"I mean, both of us, at the same Hatching. Raisheth found me, and
Taldeth chose you. Not too shabby eh?" he said jokingly.
"Not too shabby at all," T'nom replied with a grin. "It's crazy though
to think that I'd almost walked away from all this. And now, well, now
I can't imagine my life any other way. Taldeth is a part of me in a
way I don't even think I understand." He glanced back over at the
sleeping bronze. "Bronze and brown! We couldn't have asked for
anything more! That also means we've both got a lot more dragon to
wash and oil!!" T'nom chuckled at that thought. He knew he wouldn't
change it for the world. Finally, he felt complete. This was what he'd
been waiting for his whole life.
"I'll wash him four times a day everyday for ever Turn if I have to."
T'aesh said, starring at his brown wonder and then looking over to
T'nom's Taldeth. Then, a brilliant idea popped into his head, and
bright eyed he looked up at T'nom. "T'nom, look. Let's try and do
are best to get in the same Wing when we graduate ok?" T'aesh like
T'nom, and he barely knew the rest of the weyrlings in their class.
He knew that eventually he would get to know them all, but he and
T'nom shared a bond because they both had waited Turns for this
moment, he considered the new bronzerider a lifelong friend.
"That would be great, but I don't think we get to pick," T'nom
replied, thinking how great it would be to be able to choose who _he_
wanted to work with. But, alas, that wasn't the way things worked.
They had to prove themselves worthy of being ready to fight before
_any_ of the wingleaders would even consider them. "Maybe if we both
work hard and show that we can do anything then maybe we can make
things like that happen."
T'aesh nodded. "That's it then. We'll both do our best and hopefully
we'll get assigned to the same Wing" he said fervently. More than
anything, one had to be able to trust the other riders in one's wing,
and T'aesh had formed a strong friendship with Taldeth's lifemate.
"Now off to bed with you bronzerider," T'aesh said, smiling brightly
as he stated T'nom's new title. "Raisheth and Taldeth will be up all
too soon I bet, and very hungry."
"Bronzerider," T'nom replied with a bit of disbelief still in his
voice. "It's still hard to imagine that it's really come true and that
we both were chosen this time." He moved off T'aesh's bed knowing his
friend spoke the truth. "We'll be lucky if they don't wake us as soon
as we've fallen asleep. They did tell us that they would likely want
to eat at all candlemarks both day and night. Guess we'd best sleep
while we can." T'nom turned back towards his bed but paused a moment
and looked back at his friend. "Good night brownrider. Raisheth chose
well."
