Description: K'hetah and Jylanya prepare for the Gather
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 3, day 13 of Turn 6
Jylanya was packed for the few days they would be at the gather. She'd
come to the Hall with practically nothing and she still had
practically nothing, plus a few marks she'd acquired from her work.
She also had a few needs for the hold and some other requests for
which she'd been given some additional funds. She had them separated
neatly in her bag so as not to confuse the issue. She still paced and
had to face the fact that she was nervous as a herdbeast near a
dragon.
She and K'hetah had talked after he'd invited her to the gather.
Things had been getting hot and heavy for both of them but he hadn't
really pushed her. It was pretty clear that they both wanted to
advance their relationship but just that alone scared her. Of course
he couldn't have any idea why and she hadn't told him yet that she
was... untouched. All he knew was that she was a widow. He would
assume naturally that she had 'done it' before, as would anyone else.
She'd been very careful never to let anyone know the truth of her 17
turn marriage.
She shook her head and told herself she was silly for not having told
him sooner but... She picked up her bag exasperated at herself, and
began making her way toward the upper entrance to the hold. It was
almost the time he'd promised he'd be there to pick her up for their
trip. She clenched her jaw as she walked but soon her nervousness
began to give way to excitement.
K'hetah had spent his morning making sure that he hadn't forgotten
anything necessary. As a Wingleader at Dolphin Cove, he would be
provided with temporary quarters at the Hold for the duration of the
Gather. He was scheduled to meet with a few of the Hold's leaders, and
a few people from other Weyrs as well, which would take up some of his
time. He was still a bit uncertain about the arrangements, given the
fact that Jylanya and he would be sharing a bed. They had fallen
asleep together a few times, but it was never as "planned" as this
would be, and he feared scaring the woman off.
Fortunately, she had gotten more and more comfortable in her presence,
and things seemed to be going well. But there was one problem, and
that was that K'hetah had the feeling that she was holding something
back. He couldn't help but to wonder what it was. Shaking the thought
away, he mounted Loeth quickly, checking the various packages that he
had attached to the bronze dragon's riding straps.
There was one package, however, that was in the breast pocket of his
riding jacket. He feared losing it, as it had cost him a decent number
of marks. But he wanted to get Jylanya something nice that was
genuinely hers to wear at the Gather. It had been turns since she had
been able to show off, and K'hetah wanted her to have something to
take pride in.
Loeth launched himself easily into the air, and within moments, the
bronze pair were landing beside Jylanya. K'hetah waved to her as he
dismounted. "How are you today?" He asked, as he kissed her softly on
the forehead in greeting.
She saw them coming and walked toward where they were landing with a
welcoming smile for both the dragon and rider.
"I'm well," she said with a smile. They'd taken trips enough now that
she wasn't the nervous ninny she'd been the first time she'd ridden
with him. She leaned into the kiss and hugged him. "This is going to
be exciting," she said. Of course she meant the gather but was
suddenly a little embarrassed when she realized it could be taken
another way.
"Indeed it will," K'hetah said, without missing a beat. "I hope you
like to dance, because I intend on monopolizing your time on the dance
floor as much as I possibly can," he added with a wink. He checked all
of the riding straps once more, before reaching to assist Jylanya onto
Loeth's back.
She started to climb even before he reached for her feeling much more
confident than she had in the past. When he reached for her she
grabbed his hand and settled behind him quickly. She buckled herself
in and then raised her arms for him to see and check it. "How's that,"
she smiled.
"You're becoming a pro at that," K'hetah said approvingly. Loeth
leaped into the air, and within moments they were hovering about
Emerald Falls. "It looks like we arrived early!" There were only a few
dragons on the heights, and the crowds hadn't gotten to thick yet.
}:I'll be able to get a good spot on the ledge indeed,:{ Loeth
responded happily.
Loeth landed easily, and as he dismounted, K'hetah turned to look at
Jylanya. "So what would you like to do first, milady?"
This time the flight was exhilarating rather than frightening. When
they arrived she slid down Loeth's side like K'hetah though with no
where near the athletic grace. She smiled her pleasure up into his
face. She didn't have a clue where to start. "I don't know," she said
looking around. Should we check in somewhere?"
"We can check in with the Headwoman's staff to get our room before we
head over to the main Gather area," K'hetah suggested. "That way when
we're tired later we don't need to worry about anything."
