He had arrived only a day or two before but already he was the talk
of the girl's barracks. Gorgeous auburn hair, lightly bronzed skin,
and honey colored eyes that sparkled. He seemed to get a on fairly
well with a few of the boys already. In fact that's where they watched
him now, throwing a ball around with the guys in the light of the setting sun.

"Isn't he just gorgeous. I could watch him all day. Shells and I don't even
know his name," Delria remarked as she sat with Catrien and a few other lady
bystanders.

"I think it's Utanis," Catrien muttered, trying her hardest not to be
one of the swooners.

"He's dreamy..." Jenaran said from his spot on her other side.

Cat just rolled her eyes. "You two have really lost the plot, haven't you?"

"No, we're just fine thank you," and she winked at Jenaran. "We're just not
stone cold. We prefer the warmth of other living things, things in this case
being a handsome Utanis."

The boy in their admiring gaze heard his name and looked their way.
"Yes? Did someone need me?"

Delria's eyes grew wide and the blood rushed to her cheeks. How much had he
heard? "Um...I uh...I was just wondering if you were hungry?" She managed to
stammer out. When Utanis turned for a quick moment to throw the ball
away, Delria took the opportunity to shoot her best death glare in
Cat's direction.

"Oh, I could be, do you have something to eat?" He gave her his best
grin, the one that flattered all the Craft girls from where he was
from.

She was sure she was blushing now. Playfully she shoved his shoulder. "Come
on, Utanis. It's not like I just go walking around with sandwiches in my
pockets. Let's go get something real quick, hm? Maybe they'll have a bubbly
or two left?" Delria said this last part as a tease.

"Sounds promising. You coming too, Jenaran?" He turned to the slight boy.

"Y-yes, of course!" The lad in question jumped up and joined them.
He caught Cat rolling her eyes and wrinkled his nose at her.

Delria's fragile heart sank. Why did _he_ have to come? She looked to
Catrien for help but she knew there was nothing to be done. Jenaran was
as eager as she was to get close to Utanis. She would just have to step
her game if she wanted to keep the handsome boy's attentions.

Looping her arm through Utanis', she led the way to the dining cavern.
"You played well today, Utanis. You must be very strong what with this
big arms of yours," she complimented while she squeezed his arm. "Were
you a Smith before you were Searched?"

"No, a weaver," he said, smiling at her.

"I was a weaver too!" Jenaran exclaimed.

"Really?" He turned to the slender Weyr boy with a grin on his face.

Annoyed, Delria reached out to stroke Utanis' strong and muscled chest.
"That's interesting. Did you make this tunic yourself then?" She said as
her hand lazily stroked the fabric.

"I did indeed." He grinned at her and looked over her head to the
other boy. "What do you think? Do you make your own stuff too?"

"I do!" Jenaran gushed. "But not as nice as your tunic," he added wistfully.

"If you like it that much I could always make you one some time..."
Utanis blushed a bit when he said that.

**This cannot be happening.** Delria thought to herself while her hopes of
flirting with the hunky Utanis dissolved. She had one last ploy to try before
she was off to laugh about this with Catrien.

Putting her best pout in her green eyes and lips, "Well, I could always use
a new tunic or a dress maybe. This is just a rag really," she said as she
played with the bottom of her shirt.

"It is?" Utanis looked at her and frowned to himself. "Well if it is,
you sure make it look good."

Rewarding him with a smile and a twinkle in her eye Delria replied,
"Aww, thanks." As they neared the kitchens, she released his arm and
went to look for
a few bubbly pies. She returned skipping with a plate of pies. "We're
in luck. Here
you go," she said offering the plate to Utanis.

"I..huh?" He was so engrossed in staring into Jenaran's soft brown
eyes he had all but forgotten about food.

**That does it!** She just about slammed the plate on the table. "Alright then,
boys. It's been great but I think I'm done here. It's _really_ been
just a pleasure getting to know you both." Then she turned her gaze to Utanis.
"Utanis, when you're done playing the other side of the field, look me
up." Delria put her
hand to her hip and then looked over her shoulder at Jenaran. She had
intended to have words
for her competition but instead just narrowed her eyes and made a 'pfft' sound.
She was not looking to make friends. Grabbing the plate of pies again,
Delria stormed off in search for someone else to eat pie with.

"Del, over here." Cat waved her hand to where she had sat down after
trailing the threesome after they had left her. Patting the seat
beside her, she took one of the pies and nodded to the two boys who's
heads were almost touching. "Sorry, I thought you knew that the new
boy...er..likes boys. Heck, S'vin's already been with him..and Utanis
has only been here..what?..about a sevenday?"

Lightly shoving her friend's shoulder, Delria scoffed. "Nuh-uh. Seriously?
Well they can have him then. He'll fit in fine at the Weyr. Why didn't you
tell me?" She greedily bit into her pie, mulling over her thoughts.

"I think he likes girls too. He's got bluerider written all over him,
that one." Cat eyed the handsome boy once more and shook her head.

Delria also took one last look. She was just in time to catch the two
boys sharing a kiss. "Oh for the love of little green dragons, let's go."
She grabbed Cat's hand and drug her from the kitchens.
