Characters: L'ris, D'lorn
Description: L'ris asks D'lorn what to do about Tyerth and his endless energy.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 6, day 4 of Turn 6
Finishing up with inspection, D'lorn marked down the problems he'd found
with some of the weyrling cots. He'd get them straight. Frowning, he began
walking down the aisle towards his office.
"Tyerth! Stop!" L'ris called to his dragonet, chasing after him around the
barracks. "Give back my shoe!" It was not helping, he decided and came to a
stop. The more he chased, the more fun the brown had. He just thought it
was a fun play. Honestly, L'ris just didn' t know what to do with him. He
was weyrbred, he thought he should be an example for the holdbred
weyrlings. He thought he had known what it was to be a dragonrider, and
here he couldn't make his hatchling heed him. Tyerth was just such a
handful, head full, full of everything. He was friendly and playful, like a
puppy, and just like a puppy, he just didn't realize when he was being a
nuisance.
Hearing the noise, D'lorn's head came up and he followed it to its source.
"L'ris, what seems to be the problem hm?"
"Tyerth's not obeying me," L'ris replied. That sounded whiny even in his
own ears.
Thinking about this, D'lorn knew if he was going to have a talk, it needed
to be with both of the pair.
**Tell Tyerth to come here please**
}:Tyerth, mine needs you to come and listen now:{ Villith passed on from
where she was watching some other dragonets practicing stretching their
wings.
}:Why? :{ the brown asked but he did obey the older green.
Once the two of them were together in their wallow, D?lorn sat down and got
ready to talk. ?Tyerth, did you know that you?re upsetting your rider?? the
greenrider asked. This likely would turn into a bonding exercise, but for
now he just wanted to make sure everyone was on the same page.
}: I am?:{ Tyerth sounded surprised and chewed the shoe absently. Which
made L'ris wince. That shoe was a goner, and he liked to take good care of
his stuff.
"L'ris, you need to tell him how you're feeling and why," D'lorn guided
slowly, watching the brownrider.
"Ty, I don't like it when you take my things and destroy them. I like to
find them where I put them down. Besides, they don't grow in trees you
know. A good pair of shoes can be expensive," L'ris told to his brown.
Tyerth looked surprised and spit out the shoe, looking thoughtfully it.
"There, see he is beginning to understand. L'ris, you need to communicate
with Tyerth. Right now, he is still learning a lot about being a dragon and
it's hard to understand being a human too." D'lorn watched the two of them,
smiling. This was definitely a good exercise.
"Okay, I got that," L'ris nodded.
Tyerth was starting to look miserable. }: Are you angry at me now?:{ he
asked.
**Not any longer. And even when I'm angry, I still love you,** the cook
assured him and leaned to scratch his knobs.
}:Tyerth, you are a smart brown and you will learn:{ Villith chimed in,
thinking the little dragonet needed a bit of praise at least.
"Was there anything else that you were having problems with? As a future
exercise, I want you to pick something about yourself or your life to tell
him about everyday. Keep the communication going." The greenrider offered
that out there, thinking it would build the relationship and the bond.
Tyerth could see his memories, but he wouldn't be able to make sense of
them yet.
"Besides the issue of him having a totally opposite personality than I?"
L'ris asked.
?Opposites tend to attract. Take Villith and I, for instance. She is female
and thinks completely different than I do. However, our differences, when
we use them to our advantage, are far better than if we were the same.? Had
L?ris picked up on the advice offered there?
L'ris scratched his head thoughtfully. He was going to give it some
thought. "Well, if my dads make it work for twenty turns, why wouldn't Ty
and I too?" He said, thinking the two men who had brought him up. They were
different personalities too. A harper greenrider and cook.
"Indeed. Of course it helps that Tyerth loves you. He's just young yet and
hasn't realized what he's doing. It's your job to guide him with your turns
of experience and knowledge. And it's my job to make sure you're doing it
right." Smiling, he remembered how much of a handful Villith had been as a
dragonet.
L'ris nodded. "I do hope he calms down with age. I'll be run ragged if he
doesn't." He chuckled softly. "Still, I can't imagine having any other
dragon."
"That's exactly right, son. Now you two go on and work on getting to know
each other and maybe you can teach Tyerth a better game to occupy his time
with, something that will teach him strategy or something useful." With
that, he hoped he could get back to those inspection notes he needed to
finish.
"Right. Thank you, sir," L'ris said and nodded at the Weyrlingmaster's
Third. "Come on, Tyerth, let's get me new shoes and for you something
conductive to do. And no ambushing poor Himarth either!" L'ris said to his
brown, seeing which way his attention was drawn.
D'lorn chuckled as they left. He really did see himself having a soft spot
for that pair. Faranth help them.
