Keayd limped into Chupsin's infirmary. He was limping worse than normal.
"Hey,
Chupsin. I know I haven't an appointment, but could you have a moment for a
little
emergency?" he asked.
"For certain," he answered easily as he came forward to look at the
problem. He
quickly offered Keayd a chair. "What's going on?"
"I slipped on ice and fell. Now my leg hurts. Worse than normal, that is,"
Keayd explained.
Sometimes the season did tricks to you, especially if your footing wasn't
too stable on
best weather.
"Sit and extend your leg." Chupsin knew it was going to bruise but he had to
make sure that Keayd hadn't broken anything. "What kind of pain, intense?
Throbbing?"
"Steady ache which gets worse if I bend my leg," Key replied.
His hands quickly went over the man's leg, tracking the placement of the
bones.
Nothing was broken. **Good** "Lucky. You haven't broken anything, which
means
it's a muscle issue. We'll put some numbweed on it, wrap it, and ice it to
bring the
swelling down."
"Right," Keayd sighed. At least that was better than having his leg in a
cast.
"You need to stay off it for a few candlemarks at least though. Do you
still have those crutches?" he asked curiously as he gestured for an
apprentice to help him. They started working to get some cool ice onto the
area.
"Of course I have," Key replied. He hated them. He hated his club foot.
"You'll only need one of them really. For now, just sit here for a bit. Are
you hungry?" He continued the wrapping, finishing it up and tying it off.
When he was done, he sat back, hoping the swelling would go down.
"Yeah, a bit," Key replied to the healer's question. "I haven't had lunch
yet."
Pulling one of the female assistants aside, he asked her to go get a pack
lunch from the kitchens. "Anything you don't like, Keayd?" Chupsin
personally didn't know what was on the menu for the day, so he couldn't
offer any suggestions.
The vintner shook his head. "If it isn't burned down or half-raw, I eat
it." He wasn't picky with his food.
"You heard the man." His assistant disappeared and the healer scratched his
face. "You good for a bit? I've got some bandages I need to check and
change."
"Yes, I'm good. Can I get some painkiller with me? For the night," Key
replied and asked. He was worried that the ache would keep him awake.
"Well I put numbweed on it so you shouldn't feel anything for awhile. Once
it wears off, I can have an apprentice bring you some willowbark tea if
that suits." Chupsin didn't think it would cause that much pain once the
swelling went down since the man wasn't going to be on it anyway.
Keayd nodded with gratitude. "Thanks mate."
"No problem. Be a little more careful next time though." He smiled and gave
Keayd a pat on the shoulder before he headed to tend to the rest of his
business.
