Location: Dragonsfall Weyr

Feeling a bit dejected after his encounter with N'ki, Daret went in
search of G'wen. The lad would know how he felt and would hopefully
make him feel better. Of course, being stuck inside during the storm
outside wasn't making him feel any better anyway.
"Have you seen G'wen?" he asked a young girl candidate, her name
escaping him. She pointed to where she'd last seen the greenrider and
Daret made his way there.
The young greenrider was in the Dinning Hall, enjoying a well deserved
break from organizing the candidates during 'Fall. Nose deep in yet
another one of K'ren's schemes to find and Impress a gold flit, he
didn't noticed the tiny candidate until he was right in front of him.
"Daret! What can I do for you?" Beside him, K'ren blushed, hoping
Daret hadn't overheard what they were saying.
Daret didn't even notice the blushes as he moved to sit on G'wen's
other side. "Do you find S'vin to be pretty good at giving advice?"
he asked, a topic that would probably confuse both greenriders. But
he couldn't help it. The young bluerider said that N'ki was an easy
mark and Daret found that to be *far* from the truth.
"S'vin, did you say?" G'wen chortled at the mention of his best mate.
"Good at advice?!" Beside him, K'den about fell over laughing. He
looked at Daret with his large brown eyes and shook his head no.
That was not the reaction he was expecting and it made him feel even
worse. He should just give up on N'ki, cut his losses and move on but
shard it … he liked the man! Daret frowned at the laughing pair,
settled his elbow on the table and his chin on his open palm. "That's
what I thought," he grimaced and simply waited for the two greenriders
to get past their mirth.
His foreforn face just triggered another bout of the giggles from the
young greenriders. "Sorry..sorry..." G'wen tried to sober up but...
"You know all about S'vin, right?"
Daret was just about to get up since he found it hard to deal with the
giggles but when G'wen spoke of knowing about S'vin, he paused and
shook his head slowly. "No, what's to know about him? He's a
bluerider …" he said with a shrug as he crossed his arms over his
chest. The two were acting really weird and he watched them warily.
"Well, it's just he loves gossip. Like really loves gossip. So that
alone makes him not trustworthy. Why? Did he set you up on one of
his pranks?" Unconsciously G'wen straightened up and fidgeted with
his hair as he spoke. Daret always made him feel unattractive, for
some reason. Maybe it was the mutual lack of height thing.
Gossip? Daret rolled his eyes and deflated even more. "I should have
known. Blues are usually too smart for that kind of nonsense," he
said with a sigh then glowered at G'wen. "He told me that bluerider
N'ki was easy and that it would be easy for me to bed him. He's so
handsome! I still shiver at the thought." He sighed again but this
time in a dreamy way.
"Blues? Smart?" G'wen looked perplexed at that statement whilst
K'ren giggled more. The smaller greenrider glanced at him before
adding, "I thought N'ki would shag anything. I was beating him off a
while back."
The dreamy look transformed into a grimace and he was instantly back
into a grumpy mood. "Lucky you," he mumbled and glared at G'wen. "So
what's wrong with me that he won't even *look* at me with the intent
of a bedding? Oh, he thinks I'm pretty enough, I could see that in his
gaze but that's not enough!"
"I dunno..." G'wen looked Daret up and down, envious of his blond hair.
"Maybe you're_too_easy?" K'ren suggested.
"I beg your pardon?!" Daret blurted as he sat up straight and glared
at K'ren. For coming to get advice on someone the greenrider knew
well, he sure was getting the brunt of the pair's joke! "I'm not
_too_ easy, as you put it. At least I'm not relying on my green for
bed partners."
Daret stood and stepped over the bench. "Thanks for nothing ..." he
snarled and stalked off.
"Hey! Whoa!". G'wen jumped up and ran after Daret. "Stop, would
you?". He lightly held Daret by the elbow. "Listen, we're not poking
fun at you. And sorry but you_are_the boy that's been perfectly happy
to not Impress just so you can sneak off to the Flight rooms, so don't
getting stroppy about us using our greens to get laid. Now what do
you want? To get into N'ki's bed? We can ambush him, if you want.
But nothing's gonna happen if you run off like a gold flit with a
toothache."
So people have noticed ... Daret wasn't sure he liked the idea that
anyone knew the real reason he hadn't Impressed. This entire
conversation had him looking at himself differently and he wasn't
happy about it. "I do want him," he said quietly but unable to look
at him. "But if this doesn't work, I'm done. I've got to go ... let me
know when we're meeting him." He sent one final glare to K'ren then
turned to go to the barracks where he could think in peace.
