D'cal was almost asleep in his chair when he heard B'vin stirring. He turned to look over his shoulder at the greenrider. "You're awake again, B'vin?"

"Hmm, yeah, I can't seem to sleep through the night yet." he replied groggily. "What are you still doing here?"

"You really are drugged up still." D'cal smiled. "It's morning now. I'm just here before my classes. I woke up early to check on Tilarth before I came, but Dyaera's still asleep."

B'vin turned his head a bit to see the graying light outside the window and sighed, it had to be a good thing that he was sleeping more, maybe he could get out of here soon. "Can you hand me that water?" he asked, knowing better than to try and lean across his scored leg to get to it.

"Of course." D'cal brought the straw to B'vin's lips and gave him a reassuring smile. "How does your leg feel this morning?"

"Better, I guess." he replied non-committal after he had taken a long drink, "They keep it so numbed up it's hard to tell." As an afterthought he added "My hand is kind of aching more today though."

"Do you need me to fetch the healer?" the weyrling asked, concern written on his face.

"No!" he replied hastily, " They'll just poke at me some more or knock me out again, and I'm tired of both. I just want to be left alone."

"Do you want me to leave you alone too?" D'cal could understand the boys need to be alone if he did. Dyaera could sure be moody at times too.

"No, you can stay if you want." B'vin said as he tried to reposition himself into a semi sitting position. "I don't mind it so much when you are here."

"Well thank you." D'cal was glad he had developed a friendship of sorts with B'vin. It made the time waiting for Dyaera to wake up a bit more bearable. "So is this your first time Threadscored?"

B'vin grunted and looked down at his arm and then at the furs that covered his leg. "Yeah, I've gotten some char before, but..." he shrugged as he trailed off, not knowing really what to say.

"I suppose it will happen to all of us at one time or another," the weyrling said gravely. Seeing so many riders in pain really drove that fact home.

"But at least my Serenth is okay," he said resolutely, "I can deal with my injuries."

D'cal nodded. He knew that would be the worst - knowing Aosorath was in pain and he could do nothing.

}:You would love me. That would make me okay,:{ his little blue chimed in softly. His rider had to smile tenderly at that the little blue's undying faith in him.

"Soon you will be better and you will be together again," D'cal said reassuringly. "Have the healers said how long it will be?"

"No, they say it's too early to tell. But probably a long time, they're being stubborn and won't even let me _try_ to stand on my leg yet," he said, letting some of his annoyance show. He hated to sound so weak to anyone and tried to put on a brave face, but realistically he knew he badly mangled.

"Well, I'm sure they only have your best interests at heart," he replied reassuringly. The green rider's foul mood could be over-looked. D'cal couldn't imagine being laid up for a long period of time. He was sure he too would go a bit stir-crazy.

B'vin grunted and turned his head towards the window again. He just wanted to get out of the infirmary. To get back out to Serenth, to fly through the air with her again, and feel perfectly normal and calm without all the pain. It would take awhile he was sure, but he _would_ get back out there again. He _would_ fly on Serenth, and fight thread, and he would be normal again! He looked back at D'cal, determined to be more optimistic about his future and asked, "Do you want to try and finish that game of chess we started?"

"Sure," D'cal smiled as he brought the chessboard up from under the bed. He had hid it there so the pieces would not be messed up. "I think it was your move."
