Pestering a Wingleader

Characters: Bahji, U'das
Description: Bahji runs into U'das
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 8, day 22 of Turn 6

Thirty one, thirty two, thirty three.... Bahji counted to herself
as she walked down the hall, heading towards the Dining hall.
As she crossed the weyrbowl towards the Dining Hall, she was
only aware of the scant bit of light that her meager sight
allowed her. It was still daylight, she figured, and as she could
hear the bustling sounds around her, it should be a little after mid-day.

Her stomach grumbled slightly as she walked the path most well known
to her. Concentrating on that and on her counting, she didn't hear foot steps
stop in front of her. She ran right into the person and stumbled back, barely
catching herself. "I'm sorry! Excuse me!" Her cheeks flushed slightly.

"Whoopsie, there! Are you all right, miss?" U'das shot out his hands to steady her.

Catching his forearms, Bahji laughed lightly. "I'm sorry. I didn't hear you.
I guess I wasn't paying attention. I'm fine. I didn't hurt you did I?" Bahji
tilted her head towards him and her brow furrowed. "I don't think I
know you. I've not heard your voice before."

"Hey, takes more than pretty little lass to hurt me!" U'das replied.
"I'm U'das, Torrent Wingleader. I don't think we have run into each other before."

"U'das...I've heard the name. But you're right, you're the first person I've been
clumsy enough to run into." She laughed. "Normally, I'm much better about
that sort of thing. It's a bit harder when I'm still getting used to a place."
She let go of his arms and smoothed down her skirts.
Her stomach rumbled loudly, interrupting her thoughts. "Would you mind
telling me if I'm on the right path to the Dining Cavern?"

"I can do better, I can escort you there and give you company. If you accept
me that is," U'das replied.

"I'll be glad for the escort and the company. Perhaps you can keep me from
running into any one or anything else." She flashed a mischievous grin and reached
to lightly take his arm. "I appreciate it."

"You're welcome. Not I have any reason to complain. I got to eat in the company of
pretty, young woman. What more could a bronzerider wish for?" U'das replied, his
playful tone hiding a touch of self-sarcasm.

Bahji's brows shot up and her head tilted towards him as they began walking and
let him guide her on their path. The hidden intent was caught by her perceptive
ears, but she kept her tone light. ?Oh, plenty I should think. Pretty gold or green
riders and a bronze that keeps flying them? I don?t know much about that
sort of thing, but as I understand ,it does make life a little more interesting.?

"Interesting, yes. But when you get older and your bronze just doesn't
catch them anylonger.." U'das shrugged his shoulders despite she
couldn't see the gesture. He couldn't remember last time Zack had
actually caught someone and that had been...R'sedel's green.

Bahji frowned slightly. "Your voice doesn't sound like you're older."
She tentatively poked at his arm. "Skin is still firm and still
muscular." She then tilted her head. "You can't be over forty five,
and that's not old. Besides, my father always told me that age is only
a number. He is fifty three turns and still works hard on the fishing
boats every day." She smiled brightly. "And just think, you've got
more experience and knowledge than someone my age, and I think you're
charming and kind. It all works out."

"Thank's. You just missed it with about twenty turns," U'das grinned
with a laughter. Well, it was flattering.

Bahji's brows shot up at that. "Really? I'm usually pretty good about
guessing age. " She laughed lightly. "I must be getting rusty from
keeping to myself." She paused and blinked several times. "How
close are we? I'm afraid I stopped counting footsteps. I know we're
still outside, but that's about it."

"About a half length of a green dragon. I'm afraid my steps are longer
than yours, so I don't know how many steps that is," U'das replied.

Bahji suddenly laughed softly. "I don't know how long a green is,
U'das, but thank you. I think I get the idea. We're close." She
flashed a bright smile. "Would you mind having lunch with me?
You can tell me a bit more about being a bronzerider."

"Sorry about that, when you live in a Weyr, you kind of presume that
everyone know how long is average green or bronze," U'das said.
"It's a deal," he replied to her question.

"Good!" Bahji smiled. ?You?re rather interesting to talk to. I may
pester or run into you more often.? Her eyes twinkled with merriment,
as she tugged him towards the Dining Hall.

"You can pester me any time you want to," U'das promised.
