"Can I help you?" she muttered, having been told that that was the appropriate way to speak to someone needing something fixed, rather than just barging in and doing it. First it was 'don't talk to the people', then 'be nice to them'. She shook her head as she reached into the box, hopefully the wrench she needed would be in there.
"Actually, I was going to ask you the same thing," Toriat smiled softly. "I see you're rummaging around, do you need some help finding something? I already found what I came for," he swung a loose ring of rope over his shoulder. "So what exactly are you looking for?"
"I wasn't talking to you," she said, casting a glance over the young man. He was vaguely familiar to her from candidate classes, but not one that she had spent a lot of time with. "I'm looking for a wrench."
He spun around quickly, wondering if there was someone else about that she was talking to. deciding there was no one else about he shrugged and began looking through the stores. "A wrench, ok, thats a metal stick with kinda groves on an end right?"
He paused, having gotten a hold of something metallic. He lifted out a crowbar looking at it, "Not this, right? I'm sorry, I just don't know much about machinery, Terras-, Teas-, Tesedea is it?"
She nodded, but whether she was acknowledging her name, to the fact that he knew he hadn't got a wrench in his hand was unclear. She pulled another carton into view, and began to hunt through it's contents.
"Ooook," Toriat said quietly to himself, hoping she meant that the bar in his hand was indeed not a wrench. He could respect a person wanting quiet, so he remained so for a bit, rummaging around in a new box. After going through a third he finally spoke up again. "What do you need a wrench for exactly?"
She turned so her knots came properly into view. As well as the simple one that marked her candidate status, there was a more decorative addition showing her to be a senior apprentice technician. "To fix something," she said. "I need to fix something." Well it was actually lots of things to do with the heating system for the weyrling barracks, but he didn't need to know the ins and outs of it.
"Well, fix what exactly?" Toriat saw the knots but wasn't surprised, if someone needed a wrench it was probably a technician. "I figured you would either make or fix something. I guess you could also try to break something with," he hand grasped something metallic again and he pulled it out. "With this? Is this it?"
She looked, and looked again. "Yes, it is," she said. "That's just what I
was after."
Toriat took the wrench in both hands and offered it to Teseada with a flourishing bow. "Here you go, and may it aid you in your quest to fix... whatever it is you're fixing?"
That got him a smile, "Thank you," she said. "Nice to meet you Journeyman."
**Hmm, she has a nice smile, if she tries to use it** Toriat though, smiling back. "Its Toriat. And do you have to go straight back? I think I might stay a little to try and organize this a bit more, I'm sure whoever comes looking for something next would be grateful. Maybe we can even find you a spare wrench."
"I'm afraid I do have to go," she said, trying to sound a little regretful. "I have someone waiting for me, Journeyman Dhanrik will be annoyed if I'm too long."
"Alright, guess its just me then. I'll see you around then." He threw her a salute style wave. "Just, tell me where I can find you if I find another wrench?"
"I will," she replied as she dashed off.
Toriat waited until he couldn't hear her footsteps then chuckled. "Well, Tor, let's give this place a quick spruce, who knows who else might walk in."
