Sasima

Sasima

Sasima hummed as she entered to do her morning cleaning in the
Weyrwoman's weyr. Of course she knocked as a matter of form but the
Weyrwoman was never there this time of day so she walked on in with
her basket of cleaning supplies. She'd had a very nice evening with
W'ser and was just a little preoccupied with lovely memories as she
gathered up the remains of the latest meal.

The Weyrwoman ducked out from behind the stack of hides on her desk.
"Oh, I'm sorry, could I actually finish that really quick?" It was,
after all, smoked avian salad day, and Hygalia didn't know what it was
the cook put in it, but she would never forgive herself if she let any
of it go to waste.

Sasima flinched and pulled her hand away. "I'm sorry," she said
breathlessly. "I thought you were already gone to your meetings." She
scooped up the plate and utensils and brought them over to the
Weyrwoman's desk.

"Thank you," Hygalia said with a slight laugh as the tray was presented
in front of her. She had intended on walking herself over to the table,
but it seemed the young woman was in a hurry to get her plates back.
"Is someone waiting for you?" the goldrider asked teasingly as she
worked to clear a spot.

She smiled softly. "Not at the moment, no." She left it hanging and
bent to empty the small trashcan. "I am sorry ma'am, I didn't realize
you were still here."

"That's all right. I hadn't planned to be, but..." the Weyrwoman waved
helplessly at the stack. It was hard being both the manager of the
Weyr's day to day affairs as well as a Wingleader! Of course, Teseada
was always a big help, but there were some things that only she could
attend to.

Sasima wasn't nearly as well educated as the Weyrwoman and could never
do her job. Not that she even wanted to try. She was warm and dry and
reasonably well fed. For someone who'd once been holdless that was
quite enough to feel secure. She'd done things in the past she wasn't
proud of but those days were over. She just bobbed her head and
smiled. "Yes ma'am, is there anything I can bring you?"

The goldrider blew a stray hair out of her face, more in thought than
out of annoyance. "Klah. A nice big pot of it. If there's one handy."
What would she ever do without the stuff?

Sasima grinned, "yes ma'am" and tossed a quick bob before running out
to her cart. That preference of the Weyrwoman's was well known in the
lower caverns and she'd come prepared to replace the pot anyway. She
was back with a hot pot of Klah held with two hands almost
immediately. "Here we are," she said.

"Ah," Hygalia sighed as she reached for the pot like a priceless jewel.
"You are my hero. Thank you. I'm almost done with this plate here."

"You're welcome," she smiled and leaned over to retrieve the now empty
plate. She also picked up the waste basket to empty and replace near
the desk. "If you like, I can come back later to do the dusting." She
didn't know if the Weyrwoman had any reactions to stirred up dust.

"Oh no, save yourself the trip. You can do that now. Don't mind me."
There was no reason to inconvenience this nice woman just because she
had a little extra hide work to do. "Are you almost done for the day?
Or has your day just started?"

Sasima pulled out her rag and started on the shelves and table nearby.
"Oh I start pretty early so I've only a short time left. Just have to
finish up here and then the council room and I'm done for the day."
Visions of another night with W'ser made the thought even nicer.

"That's nice," the goldrider said with a longing smile. If only she
could see the bottom of this pile so close... "Any plans for the
evening?"

"Yes," Sasima replied softly. "I've been seeing a dragonrider and
we're having dinner tonight. He's promised to take me somewhere." She
sighed as she dusted and dreamed. "It's been a long time since I've
been out of the Weyr."

"Yeah, me too." Though her leaving the Weyr was often met with more
trouble then it was worth. "Will you go for a picnic or to a tavern
somewhere?"

"Actually I'm not sure," she chuckled. "It's a surprise."

"Surprises are always fun." Hygalia's mind was already wandering to all
the places she would rather be right then. "Are you from the Weyr
originally?"

"Not that I remember," she said carefully. "I only have dim memories
of my parents, or who I think were my parents. I was lost at a gather
and raised by the hold. They never found my parents."

"Oh, I see." That was all the Weyrwoman could think to say. It was a
rather unusual beginning. "Well, it seems you made your way to a Weyr
somehow, at least."

"Yes, it took me awhile to get here but I count myself lucky." She was
done with her dusting and gathered up her things.

"Good to hear. I like happy people." They made her job much easier.
"Thank you for waiting for the tray. Sorry to make you clean around
me." Now if only Hygalia's desk looked as clean as the rest of her
office...
