Description: U'das and U'fouinn talk and decide to let bygones be bygones and start fresh as father and son
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 12, day 26 of Turn 6

U'fouinn was happy to watch as Amizth took to the skies for a bit of
wing stretching. He, too, stretched his own lithe form and rose from
the bench where he'd been sitting. Amizth was happy and would return
shortly, in the meantime, U'fouinn could find some time to do the
things that needed doing.

U'das shielded his eyes from the sun light and tried to identify which
green it was. Sometimes it was hard to tell, especially from the air.
}: Amizth, :{ Zackariath suplied him with the name.

** You would know, wouldn't you, you keep a track of her. ** U'das
thought drolly.

}: I like her, :{ Zack didn't need complicated reasons. Like humans.
The bronze knew that Amizth's rider was related to his, all the rest
went beyond his understanding.

}:Zackariath and his are here,:{ Amizth related back to U'fouinn. The
green knew that her rider was always curious when the bronze and his
were nearby. U'fouinn glanced skyward with a sigh. Did he want to
encounter his father today? Things were better in recent months than
they had been in Turns past...at least they were speaking cordially to
one another. Yet, still U'das made U'fouinn uncomfortable. He couldn't
quite shake the feeling that U'das was never happy with him, even now
as an adult.

U'das was wondering almost same thing. Should he go to talk with his
son? He still couldn't figure out what U'fouinn was thinking and why
he always seem to take offense no matter what he said. At least they
did talk now. He decided that things would never get better unless
they tried and slowly walked towards him.

U'fouinn realized in that moment that U'das was heading his way.
Taking a deep breath, he prepared himself for the encounter, not
really sure whether to be anxious, nervous or pleased that U'das was
actually seeking him out.

"Good day," U'fouinn said as his father approached. "Good flying today?"

"Good day, U'fouinn. It always good flying unless it's a storm," U'das
replied with a grin.

U'fouinn fiddled for a moment, wondering what to say next. Why was it
that he could talk to others with no problems, but always seemed to
get tongue-tied around his father.

"Anything new happening?" He asked, figuring the question allowed for
many answers and would hopefully give them something to discuss.

"Not in my life, no," U'das shook his head. His life was pretty stuck
on routines. "Your cousin Uetia's...well, she misses her mate who went
back to sea."

"Ah," U'fouinn replied. "I haven't had a chance to talk to Uetia much,
but that would be very difficult. I couldn't imagine my life without
D'arvn." Just the thought made U'fouinn glad he didn't have to find
out.

"You and D'arvn are doing well then?" U'das asked.

"We are," U'fouinn answered, wondering how much to say to his father.
Then deciding he didn't want to have to hold back just because his
father might not have approved of all his actions, U'fouinn added. "In
fact, we just celebrated another Turn together. While we haven't been
together as long as some, I would like to hope we would stay together
as long as we can."

"That's nice, congratulations," U'das replied, not really knowing what
to say. His long term relationsship had been with Selja, who wasn't
U'fouinn's mother. Brining her up would be impolite, wouldn't it? He
worried he might insult U'fouinn's feelings if he talked about her
dead weyrmate.

He looked at his father a moment. "Thank you. I know you understand
how important it is," U'fouinn wasn't upset that U'das had had a
weyrmate who wasn't his mother. It was something he understood,
especially now as a rider. There were times when things in the Weyr
were not as one would expect. All he really cared about was that his
father accepted him for who he was. Things were getting better.
U'fouinn felt more at ease talking with U'das, but still there was a
barrier between them at times.

Pausing for a moment, he looked at U'das, "I want us to have a
relationship like that," he said, then shook his head and fumbled for
his words a bit. "That isn't exactly what I meant!" He heaved a sigh,
hating that he felt tongue-tied. "I want us to have a closer
relationship than we had in the past." There, he'd said it. Clearly
being with D'arvn had given U'fouinn the confidence he needed to
finally tell U'das his feelings and not be so afraid. He waited
anxiously for his father's answer.

"I would like that," U'das said. "You're my son, no matter how absent
I was when you grew up." Yep, he was feeling guilt over that. He had
his other family he had been concentrating on.

U'fouinn smiled. Something about U'das' words seemed to ease a burden
U'fouinn had carried with him for Turns. "Let's let the past be the
past. Let's start fresh this day. I _want_ to be a part of your life
and have you be a part of _mine_."

"You are part of my life now," U'das replied with a slow smile, "You
and Uetia both. I hope to have a role in your's too." After all his
other three children were living either in another Weyr or was sailing
all over Pern. He put a hand on his son's shoulder and squeezed it
lightly. "Want to join me for a meal?"

"That's a great idea. I would enjoy that very much," U'fouinn replied.
Standing he smiled at U'das. "I could use a good meal and some good
company too."

"Good," U'das grinned. It was definently a step forward for them.
