K'mai

Standing there by the lake, Rhosyn had the gear all setup. The Weyrwoman was in a fine mood. They had regular practices but since they now had the prospect of a real match looming, they needed to focus a bit more. She didn't have any real fear that her team would let her down. They lived in the water year-round. "Guys! I've got
an announcement!"

Uetia and L'ris both came closer. Both were set up to play.

J'ren sauntered over to draw closer to the Weyrwoman. He chuckled softly at the goldrider, but didn't make any comments.

K'mai squeezed in next to his teammates.

"So, I made some arrangements and we're going to have a match against the Dragonsfall team. And I know we can beat them with our hands behind our backs. However, that means we need to get ready and focus a bit more." Watching their reactions, Rhosyn hoped this would be good news and give them something to look forward to.

"Yay, a match!" L'ris grinned happily.

"Oh, a match!" Gelira remarked as she sidled up to join the other waterball players. She enjoyed the time spent in the water and the physical activity practicing with the team provided. "Do you know when the match is yet?" she asked.

Although S'ber arrived quietly, it was hard to miss the big man. He stood behind everyone and awaited Rhosyn's answer to Gelira's question.

"Dragonsfall? They don't stand a chance." J'ren was a decent player but he didn't play because he was good at it, he played because he really enjoyed it and it was a great way to relax. "When is the match?"

"It's going to be in the third sevenday so we better get cracking. Allright, everyone in the water. J'ren, get the ball. Five on five, and K'mai-you go up against him for the
first toss. Places people!" Already in her element, the little goldrider took her place back in one of the goals.

"Yes ma'am!" K'mai gave her a little salute before hurrying to his place.

Gelira eagerly got into the water, taking her place near just off to the side of the center. Her eyes were already ready to start watching and tracking the ball once the game got going.

D'arvn was a strong swimmer but he sat on the sidelines for the moment. At least until one of the other members got tired and he'd jump in.

Eyeing the tiny Weyrwoman as she settled into the goal position, S'ber nodded to Gelira as he settled on the other side of the net from her. Shells, he hoped he wouldn't swamp them when the ball came their way. As much as he loved the water and spending time in it with Dylorth, he was afraid he wasn't the most graceful and would therefore hurt one or both of them. Too late now to argue so he let the uncertainty pass and waited for game to begin.

Uetia dove into the water and took her customary position.

L'ris went to take a spot as the other team's goal-keeper. The young brown rider grinned. He was short but stocky and it wasn't easy to get past him.

J'ren grabbed the ball and got into the water. He grinned as the others settled into their positions. "Look alive people!" he shouted before he set the ball into motion.

K'mai jumped and grabbed for the ball, just barely catching it and passing it off to the nearest teammate.

Gelira used her legs and pushed upward, catching the ball, then swimming with it near her chest, she moved towards the goal. Seeing an opening, she passed it to a teammate who was closer.

"Look alive Uetia-coming your way!" Rhosyn shouted, watching the ball and hoping it didn't come her way. There was a reason why she was in the goal. Everyone
knew she was so small she couldn't reach or jump very high so the idea was to keep it away from her.

S'ber hung back a bit as Gelira took off. He knew that defending the goal was much more important than forging ahead to score even if he had the power with his long reach to do it.

Uetia got the ball from Gelira and after a clever feint, launched it high towards goal guarded by L'ris. The young brownrider wasn't sleeping and jumping out of the water with his strong legs, managed to get his hand between the ball and goal. The ball bounced back to the field. "Trundlebuggers," Uetia muttered, seeing her goal fended off.

When the ball was once more in play, Rhosyn waited to see what the other side had in mind. "Come on guys-pass, pass, pass! Speed! We've got to be fast to keep them looking." She looked funny, jumping up and down and yelling from where she was.

Uetia made lunge for the ball but ended up wrestling with the opposing team's player and couldn't reach it. "K'mai, close to you! *gurgle*" she tried to call but got mouthful of water. She was out for a moment, coughing her lungs clear.

K'mai dove for the ball and got a hold of it, heading for the goal. His teammates weren't near and two of the opposing players were closing in. K'mai dodged and threw the ball toward the goal.

But it was knocked to the side by one of the other players. Rhosyn groaned, though it was still her team's victory-sort of. "Good block! Now someone run with it!"

After about a candlemark or so of playing, they all got out of the water and stretched. "Okay guys-good practice. We'll have another in a few days and I'll send out the match details to all of you. Keep in shape and I'll see you." Rhosyn smiled, already thinking of the moment when they wiped U'kaiah's grin off his face.
