K'mai

K'mai

"Hey K'mai, look it's the new one-the brownrider," E'rae announced as they came up behind L'ris. The bluerider grinned, thinking it would be an easy thing to take the boy up under their wing. Clapping an arm on the boy's shoulder, he leaned down. "Hello, L'ris. My name's E'rae and I'm one of your new wingmates."

"Hi, E'rae," L'ris grinned back.

"Little Layris, all grown up," K'mai said. "I guess you won't be a cook after all."

"Ah well he'll be cooking Thread instead. So brownrider, how do you like life as a wingrider so far?" E'rae was slowly steering them towards the Dining Cavern.

"I'm liking it. Especially now that Tyerth has finally realized that life isn't just fun and games. Nothing like few Threadfalls to mature you up," L'ris replied.

"Don't I know it," K'mai said, thinking about the scars he and Sebeth shared.

"Aye..you know it was a lot different before the Pass started and all. Course it was different for us cause we weren't as young going into it. Still, that was some very bad stuff." E'rae shivered as the memories roiled through him and he found himself edging closer to K'mai without thinking about it.

"So I've heard," L'ris replied with serious tone. "And lost some dear friends who Impressed before I did."

"We've decided you should stick with us. Soak up all you can so to speak. Me and K'mai will have you up to snuff as a wingrider quicker than you can climb a dragon's leg." The slow smile was there again, signaling there might be more to that but it was all in good fun.

"We've all lost friends. Far too many." K'mai nodded solemnly. "But, hey! What are we getting so down for? Let's talk about something more pleasant. Do you have a special lady in your life, L'ris?"

"Thanks mates," L'ris said to E'rae first. "Ah, no. I'm soaring freely as you can put it. Savoring the selection," L'ris
answered K'mai's question and gave him a wink. Maybe he could get tips from the bluerider.

"Have you been to the tavern at the Vintner Hall?" K'mai asked.

"No, I haven't been that far...yet," L'ris replied and grinned.

"Hmmm sounds like we need to make a trip." E'rae was already thinking in his head about what he had to do and when would be a good time to go.

"Sounds like fun. You could teach me all kind of wicked things," L'ris laughed.

"Absolutely, and we'd be proud to be your teachers." K'mai laughed and clapped him on the back.

"Wickedness....is in the eye of the beholder. We prefer the term fun." E'rae gave a throaty chuckle as he thought about their last trip to the tavern. "Wait K'mai, are we allowed back there yet after...well you know?"

K'mai waved a hand. "I'm sure they've forgotten all about it."

"Ah well then, L'ris you just let us know when you can go." E'rae gave the boy's shoulder a shove and nodded at K'mai.

"Sure, I'll let you know when I got free day," L'ris replied and continued: "I can detect an interesting story there, why don't you tell me all about it?"

K'mai arched an eyebrow. "I don't know. You might be too young."

"We'd tell you but then we'd have to kill you," E'rae quipped easily.
